The language used in this cartoon is really odd, jarringly out of tune with the images. Is it deliberate or just a case of ‘couldn’t be bothered’?
Pretty much par for the course for Wondermark. It takes a little getting used to.
What I wanted this story to be about:
It is intentionally overwritten to clash with/compliment the old-timey images.
Wondermark is quite clever if you get used to it. It’s not always got an obvious punch line, often its a thinker.
Is that elbow or a butt?
I think it’s a butt.
Eww!
Butt-Head: Hey Beavis. I bet when we get that reward money, we can like, see that movie about stiffies, and we can like, pay for our own tattoos.
Beavis: Yeah! Then we’ll be cool.
Butt-Head: I’ll get a tattoo of a butt.
Beavis: I’ll get a tattoo of a butt on my butt!
Butt-Head: Oh yeah?
Beavis: Yeah!
Butt-Head: Well I’ll get a tattoo of a butt that has a butt-shaped tattoo on it, and I’ll get it right on my butt! That would be cool.
Beavis: [briefly pauses] Yeah, me too.
