It’s the ultimate logic - politicians get bought by rich people. The only people who can’t be bought are people who are already too rich to care about more money. So we must elect the rich people.
I’m gonna just go ahead and say that no, it isn’t. I’m from Toronto, you know, home of former “worst mayor in the world” Rob Ford. But while Rob Ford was getting drunk, smoking crack and skipping work to coach football, four mayors of Montreal were arrested for corruption (that is, the mayor, the guy who was put in as acting mayor when he mayor was arrested, the next guy put in as acting mayor, and the next guy who was put in as acting mayor). Tens of millions in construction contracts awarded improperly to companies run by organized criminals offering kickbacks. The reality is that Rob Ford wasn’t the worst mayor in the country, let alone the world. He might not have been the worst mayor within 100 miles.
Maybe a comment about menstruation isn’t near the level of some of the other candidates, but it’s also not the worst thing Trump has ever done. Erickson deinvited him from a conference because it was “the straw that broke the camel’s back.” I’d say that calling Mexican immigrants rapists was worse, and I’m sure that giving out Lindsey Graham’s cell number is considered worse by the party establishment.
Still, he did it. I mean, what the hell? You don’t have to be the worst to be bad. Maybe we should be more offended by horrible policy than by indecent comments, but we don’t really have to choose. I don’t think people who are stunned by trump in this behaviour are in these forums are all backing Santorum.
But if you count up the articles, the worse kind is largely being ignored in favor of the other kind which was not even explicit in this case. Bush joked that we shouldn’t fund women’s health so well, Cruz has called for shutting down the govt to defund planned parenthood, and I think it was rubio that basically said by omission that women should die if only an abortion can save their lives and here is the whole country discussing the PMS joke that Trump almost made. He should lose for sexist jokes and general rudeness while genuine evil gets a pass as normal.
I mean, that logic is remarkably flawed, but a billionaire coming out to say he can make the monkey dance when he says dance is pretty groundbreaking. The other democracy destroying juggernauts hide behind some sort of ideology. Trump is willing to expose that fraud to the most true believing wing of the denial party and all everybody wants to ask him about is if he will double down on insults and bad jokes. Color me frustrated.
Well, there was an article linked from boingboing recently about taking Trump seriously as a candidate. The reporter found it impossible because Trump’s campaign wouldn’t take serious questions.
Yeah, Trump is a circus act and we are watching. Sadly, genuine evil is normal.
Yes, they hate him, but only because he can’t win, and he’s taking attention from candidates that the GOP believes can beat HRC. The only thing he’s exposing is himself, as a complete buffoon who can’t put together two truthful sentences.
Sure, but i think the left should be more shy about calling the right stupid and insane if the core of our political dialog amounts to, “Look at the shiny! It’s funny!”
