Trump aides were in constant contact with top Russian officials during campaign

Gerrymandering doesn’t play a role in Electioral College stuff, though. (Except for Nebraska and Maine, possibly.)

Wow that appears to be a shocking false equivalence.

what trump people HAVE DONE is being compared to what MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED to her email.

There’s no evidence any of her email made it to foreign intelligence, but this dude placed MANY DIRECT CALLS to foreign intelligence.

Please, make sure and check your cognitive dissonance at the door!

Donnie is having a real tantrum on Twitter this morning. Must be properly upset today.

No, they weren’t. Manafort was always suspected but regularly denied any connections. The Alfa bank info linked above wasn’t known publicly, and @gracchus’ links were also unknown to the public. Know what else we don’t know? trump’s tax returns. Why he so willingly defends Putin/RF actions. Etc, etc.

Your statement isn’t anywhere near correct in the context of what “Americans” knew prior to the election.

It isn’t false equivalence.

When the Email story first broke it seemed like it was a big fucking deal. Then it turned out it wasn’t. In the meantime there was WILD speculation as to what was in them, some of that speculation still exists as facts in people’s brains.

For sure the Russian/Trump link is troubling. But, God damn it, if you’re going to tell me there were these calls and some of them were monitored, then fucking tell us the whole story. No one needs to let it ferment for a few weeks as speculation runs wild. Was it as bad as I can imagine? I can imagine some pretty bad things. Hell it is entirely possible that while alarming, nothing done was illegal (I wouldn’t bet money on that, but until you have, you know, the facts, it is a possibility.)

So why the games? Stop teasing and acting like Buzzfeed and get us some solid fucking information. Is that too much to ask?

two totally different situations have struck you the same way. That’s not evidence they’re the same.

Do you know what bias looks like when its you seeing it in other peoples weak arguments? That’s what I see here. I am sorry, I think you’re comparing apple seeds to orange groves.

Depends who you’re asking.

Clinton was open with the government investigation, it turned out to be nothing actionable or uncommon. The investigation lasted years and is over. You know about it because of the congressional investigation and reporting process.

lets see how Trumps team plays their ACTUAL CONTACT with foreign intelligence which has ALREADY LEAD TO THE RESIGNATION OF A TOP OFFICIAL after being revealed a few days ago. Congress has not even touched it yet, you will learn from their investigations after they conclude, and during the public testimony - as we did with clinton.

I am glad to know you want the same level of disclosure in this case, and will therefore support and encourage a full congressional investigation if this - to at least the same degree Clinton faced for her email servers. The third one should do nicely.

in every way, other than your reported perception of them, and that the media is covering them, these are non-comparable situations.

Well, thank goodness 45’s come forward with a well-thought-out, properly Presidential response to all of this. Blame Hillary!

They were always enthralled with unchecked power (especially unchecked WHITE power), so trump is the logical end to that desire. Also, evangelical christians should teach classes in the free and regular exercise of hypocrisy–they’re Real Gud at it.

Sadly, agreed. And what better time to do it than now? I’m willing to bet that Putin was already setting up to grab more of Ukraine in the future months/years, but his timetable was just too damned long! How many times do the WaPo, NYT, LAT, etc. have to carry reports about the absolute chaos in the top level of American governance before rival foreign governments act…and how will they act once they do?

I’m not seeing an invasion of the US (b/c that would be bonkers stupid), but I’m willing to bet China and the RF (among others) are eagerly calling up their expansionist analysts and telling them to work faster.

It’s all allegations, now and then. The links to Russia aren’t new.

Much of what I would say has been said, but this little snippet was unreal:

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer seems to stand by those earlier denials.

“There’s nothing that would conclude me that anything different has changed with respect to that time period,” Spicer said

Appeared to stand by those earlier denials indeed. Holy shit, is that how he talks? Was Melissa McCarthy doing him favours by making him seem more coherent than he really is? I wonder if a few months from now he’ll be defending himself saying, “I never lied, if you re-read what I said carefully, you’ll see it had no content whatsoever.”

I’ve read articles (like this one) on how hard it is to translate Trump because he’s incoherent, so the translators worry that if they translate him faithfully, they’ll be accused of doing a poor job - people would think it was a problem with translation rather than a problem with the speech or thought of the president. I can’t imagine trying to translate that Spicer quote.

Keep in mind that we’re still looking at a bunch of quotes from anonymous intelligence officials. These stories are entirely plausible, but treat them with appropriate skepticism.

The enemy of your enemy is not your friend. Don’t start trusting CIA “leaks” just because they’re telling you what you want to hear.

I’m unsurprised by these allegations, I think this story’s probably got legs, and I’ll be keeping an eye on it. I hope Trump goes down. But I’m not about to start trusting stories uncritically just because they quote unnamed intelligence officials.

They haven’t struck me the same way. No one is saying they are exactly the same. It is just an example of a breaking story with half assed information. My main point is the comparison that lack of information leads to wild speculation and that leads to more misinformation and more shit down the line. Not that the two instances were the same in either scope or importance.

Unlike the Email story, it appears someone does have the transcripts. They don’t have to sift through servers to see if something bad was in there. That information is known now, right?

WHY was only part of the information released? This isn’t a bomb shell, this is the leaflets dropped before the bomb warning you to abandon the city. Are they going to actually bomb it or not?

Notably the top three are from November, during which time you’ll recall the FBI coming out strongly against…any weirdness about HRC’s emails. The other two are stories posted at BB, and I think you can guess how many conservatives come to BB for the stories.

The links to Russia are not new, that’s true. What’s new is the depth and breadth of those links is finally being revealed, and the American public are actually listening this time.

You’re making the assumption that most American voters, especially conservatives, are as well educated and politically aware as your average BoingBoing regular. That is not the case. Most Americans get their news, if they do so at all, through network and cable TV outlets and through Facebook or Twitter feeds and recommendations. Most of them only respond to scandal.

I only knew about the Russian connections of Manafort and Page and Tillerson and Putin’s agenda, well before November, because it’s part of my job to follow these things.

In a normal administration I would be expecting them to scramble to try to save themselves from impeachment.

In this administration I am expecting a Reichstag Fire moment, followed very quickly by a significant war and an immediate adoption of the ‘how dare you criticize the president in a time of war’ mantra.

No, it leads to more INVESTIGATION BY CONGRESS down the line.

If that’s shit to you, i don’t know what side you’re on. And I don’t mean party affiliation at all.
