Honestly, there are some countries which I would describe as shitholes, in casual conversation at least.
These countries generally share some things in common:
1 - They rarely have any sort of (enforced) constitutional limits on power.
2 - They often do not grant women equal legal standing with men.
3 - They punish what they consider sexual “deviance” with prison or much worse.
4 - They have not had a peaceful transtion of power to an opposition party in many years.
5 - They have a “president for life” or the functional equivalent (this is a close to 100% shithole marker)
This does not mean that the people living in those countries are shit. Especially those who oppose 1 - 5 above and wish to live in a country where those “values” do not prevail. I welcome them.
Surprisingly enough, many of them seem to want to live in the USA, given our almost innumerable flaws.
