There was a bit of that with Nixon, but we still had Reagan four short years later. While Nixon was horrible, Trump is worse, I hope the backlash is proportionate to Trump’s horridness, but I don’t know what percentage of “redeemable” Trump supporters will be able to understand who he is.

Plans are being made to:
Fill all levels of the Federal Government with his lackeys.
Use the military to put down any opposition.
Install christofascists in the DOJ to investigate his [and their] enemies.
And the christofascists can’t wait for the chance to create a theocracy.
Rest assured, they will stop at nothing to make sure Lord Dampnut regains power.
Our only way out is to make damn sure that doesn’t happen.
Either way, it’s gonna get ugly; win or lose, I fully expect the MAGAts to go apeshit.

I’d say the goal is not to win back those hardcore Trump supporters/New Age Confederates. The goal is to teach the political leadership not to see them as a path to power, and this to push them back to the margins where they belong.
There will always be a percentage of the population that just cannot wait to put on their brownshirts/hoods/polo shirts and join the fascists. It is the job of civilized people to make damn sure they stay on the margins. A job we’ve been failing at.

I remain… well baffled more than surprised at this point, that anyone anywhere is willing to show any loyalty to Trump. His kids being the most baffling since they, more than anyone else, have witnessed his total and complete disloyalty to anyone, including themselves. Like how many times can you watch the scorpion sting the frog before you work out that said scorpion will in fact sting every frog it rides?

Oh of course he’s still a conman. I just think there’s no longer any danger of him gaining any kind of power. His campaign is dead, and Trump is clearly not going to give him a position in his cabinet should he, gods forbid, win in November. I think most people have figured out that he is a conman and a fraud, even if it’s that they believe he’s only a MAGA fraud. The only danger he presents now is a threat to the pocketbooks of venture capitalists, and fuck those people.

There are people downright enthusiastic about abusing power – and they don’t even mind that that power will never, ever be yielded back by the state just as long as they get to use that power on their own enemies first.
