I am not a believer that people change. I spent 15 years married to someone who would not change, and as a result it cost me my dignity, my pride, my self esteem, my self confidence; and left me feeling worthless, feeling unlovable, and very broken inside. It’s my experience that people do not change.
For Trump to be even a fair president, he will need to change. drastically. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.
I do not believe people change. I hope and pray in this instance I am proven completely wrong.
I’ve been tempted to sit my parents down and ask them, just once, this question.
Now that th ‘right’ person and the ‘right’ congress are in office. CAN YOU PLEASE STOP ACTING LIKE RACIST DICKBAGS AND AT LEAST PRETEND TO BE THE PEOPLE YOU USED TO BE?!
Yeah I get it. Trump is a billionaire and it is highly unlikely he got there by simply working hard. That money and his modest star power (from 80s/90s pop culture appearances) is what gave him the opportunity to fight. Obviously no regular citizen could hope to toss their name into the hat and even make it onto the ballot. You need a ton of support from somewhere. Remember that Trump fought the RNC the whole way through the primary. He broke the party with his own money and ability to give a solid speech. At the start of the general, it was accurate to say the republican party was in shambles. I know Trump probably comes with his own brand of corruption. Money is power and power corrupts. There are shady real estate deals and things like Trump U in his past. Try to look at the opportunity he presents though. Even if all his swamp draining amounts to is congressional term limits and letting states decide social issues, that’s a big deal. It gives other outsiders a chance to get into the system. It gives you a choice when you vote. I’m excited already for what I can do with my votes in the future. We all should be. This is a very rare opportunity.
Why the fuck would you tell her that? Did Trump introduce Jus Primae Noctis?
Jesus Christ, people, chill out. You live in the same country you lived in before. You’re still alive and well - tell her how you got there.
Ethnic minorities, they have a problem - the racists will feel emboldened like they were here with Brexit; but somehow I don’t think an ethnic minority person is not already aware that a good chunk of people around him/her will not like him/her because of what s/he looks like.
Hopefully Internet media and the chatroom class won’t repeat this mistake next cycle. Hopefully.
Well said. There’s some people making a lot of sense in here.
@oldtaku, I think you’re overemphasizing the Clinton family’s personal role in this. You’re fundamentally right about what happened, though… watching this relentlessly play out has been very disheartening.
@Lem, I admire your enthusiasm and wish you the best of luck. Congratulations on the win.
80% of blacks voted Clinton, similarly (but not always) Latinos, so that factor is pretty clear.
52% of white women voted Trump. If sexism was an issue, that number wouldn’t be that high. Unless you think that white women are sexist, but at that point you can’t climb that mountain in one election or ten.
I’m not going to argue that sexism was a major factor in Clinton’s lost, but to pretend like it is not a factor at all is just being willfully ignorant. Black cops can be racist, women can be misogynist, etcetera. Sexism, like racism, is institutional.
