It is bolstered by anecdotal evidence, as many of the Trump supporters on my FB feed are indeed working class and a few have even said specifically lines like, “working class taking power from the elites”.
Except of course, they aren’t. This is just more of the oligarch in power, just with an appeal to some of those voters.
I would debate the broad range. In the primaries he energized the working class of the Midwest who ended up voting for Trump. That is the only place where he made a stand out difference in the actual votes. But you raise the biggest question my wife and I already talked about:

What do I tell my teenage daughter? Honest question. How do I tell her our country doesn’t value the sanctity of her body?
Except she is still young and will grow up with any permanent changes in place.
Why the fuck would you tell her that? Did Trump introduce Jus Primae Noctis?
You do realize that not only will the Supreme Court now be republican controlled once more, but they will likely get an additional seat beyond the majority. That alone is devastating to women’s rights in the US.
Of course, but that’s the 2-party system in action: “don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos”
You were talking about them as if they weren’t here.
I fixed that for you.
I actually voted for the candidate the Dems put up this time. This is the first time I’ve done that in years. I honestly didn’t want to do that, but I did.
This was a brick through the window of the establishment. We gave the Democrats a populist movement packaged up and ready to go, and they shat all over it. Trump was tapping into something real, completely the opposite of what Clinton was doing, even though voting for Trump is hardly constructive.
Both of those things can be true simultaneously.
That’s fundamentally another problem - Dems need a Congressional majority, and they need to make it work in the long run. They keep failing at that, even when they have good presidents. Under President HRC, Republicans would have fought tooth and nail to keep those nominations open anyway.
Don’t bandage your head before it’s broken. There are sane Republicans out there, and “surprise” Judges do happen. Silvio was all about the Holy Family and all that bullshit, and did pretty much nothing to roll back the clock.
Surely they’d have got their butlers to do it so they didn’t get their hands dirty?
That is terrible analysis. If a Trump voter’s median income is below the GOP average then Trump is peeling working class votes away from the Democrats - especially since the charge is that his base is white working class.
I don’t give a shit about hypocrisy. If more Dem politicians did that too, maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.
In this case, it’s not correct. @Shuck was talking about a liberal who bought into the Hillary fear and voted Trump. I don’t think that person was any of those things, but was subject to the same bullshit that we all were, and actually believed it.
Yes, by handing that power to a trust fund billionaire who lives in the Penthouse of a giant Manhattan skyscraper emblazoned with his name in big gold letters. That’ll show them elitists!
Which slammed right into the head of those of us who aren’t white, straight, male, or [ETA] Christian.
Or Christian.
The liberal Jewish community has been posting info on how to get your passport, and what pieces of paperwork you need to get through the Right Of Return smoothly.
Hell, everybody else too. It’s just a matter of time.
You’re right… I’m going to add that to the list.
