Trump falsely claims Google is RIGGED to show bad things when you google "Trump News"

Exactly. Of course typing ‘Trump news’ into Google give reports of a horrible shitshow.

Google is ‘lawful evil,’ while 45 is ‘chaotic evil,’ with a side of idiotic evil.

While I’m sure that Google’s black-box news ranking algorithm contains many assumptions related to the company’s core values and business mission (e.g. upranking authoritative and reputable sources), while I’m sure that its moderation staff does blacklist news sources according to business requirements (e.g. taking out hate-speech sources, trying to dodge other countries’ IP regulations), and while I have no doubt that most of Google’s management is far more socially liberal than Dolt-45’s supporters it still doesn’t make sense that they’d deliberately encode establishment Dem criteria into the algorithm.

More likely Google is sorting based on criteria like the news outlet’s authoritativeness, reputation, traffic levels, and perhaps some the history of the user doing the searching – for much the same reason why I clicked through on your US News link but wouldn’t touch the other two. The company’s core value proposition can be boiled down to “ask us a question and we’ll point you to the most accurate answer possible.”

The kind of news outlet that offers only unquestioning good coverage of Il Douche is likely not going to bubble to the top of the results by those criteria and Google’s user-engagement business model, unlike Facebook’s or Twitter’s, doesn’t reward the company for pushing that kind of site on its users. Meanwhile, an MSM outlet like the NYT or WaPo will be ranked higher by those criteria, including on the occasions when they or their columnists have praise for Il Douche (e.g. when it looked like he was making progress with Lil Kim).

Now I can see how that can lead to the perception of the Google News algorithm as having a centre liberal bias, but that’s not Google’s fault. If the “president” is going to gripe* about this he needs to either address the fact that the most reputable news outlets in the country also happen to be run and owned by wealthy members of what Karl Rove called “the reality based community” or perhaps start embracing reality a bit more often than he has throughout his life.

Alternately, he can call it a day and urge his supporters to protest Google by switching to Yandex and Vkontakte, vhere all noos about glorious and peace-loving patriotic CE-SH-AH leader eez good.

[* let’s face it, performatively for the rubes – he can barely read, let alone understand the basics of how an algorithm works. I have no doubt he vaguely imagines it as the kind of slot machine he wished he could have installed in the Taj Mahal Atlantic City.]

A lot of left-wing sites are saying it, too, even ones as rife with merely “liberal” editors and contributors as OpEdNews. Off the top of my head, I’ve seen articles or editorial commentary about it at World Socialist Web Site, Information Clearing House, Consortium News, TeleSUR, Global Research, the Real News Network, the OffGuardian, the Canary, and more. Even Democracy NOW, which, when last I checked, was on board with Russiagate, Cold War 2.0, the vilification of Bashar al-Assad, and the whitewashing of the White Helmets, has been badly hit by a drop in traffic post-PropOrNot.

As for MAGA, Trump can stop. The job is done:

“Gator Run: Florida man chases away store customers with a baby alligator… just to buy beer (VIDEO),” rt.com, 29 July 2018.

I’ve never been so proud to be an American.

PS: Posting worked in Firefox Quantum. I can stop suspecting a dark conspiracy between Boing Boing and Google.

Donald Trump thinks Google is rigged against him because he keeps searching for “Bowling Green” and just gets sports news instead of information on that massacre Kellyanne keeps insisting really happened.

Yeah, if they want to keep their head.

If only Ted “A Series of Tubes” Stevens hadn’t gone on to the great technodolt tundra in the sky, I’m sure he could have explained search engine algorithms to Il Douche.

Aijit Pai speaks fluent Corruption. If the Secret Service can pull him out from under that giant Reese’s coffee mug, maybe he can get through to Trump.

Then again, maybe not. Probably better to leave him where he is.

you realize he is not only going to abuse regulations to force google to show/rank results for fox et. al, but those parties are now suddenly getting the idea to make their own search engine with only ultra conservative opinion pieces

Google has been openly discussing the need to crack down on “extremist” content for a while now. “Extremist” in this case does not mean illegal, it just means politically objectionable. What counts as objectionable is very subjective - not measurable/testable by algorithms. So it will in practice be the result of the balance of power between all parties involved.
