Trump fined, faces jail and perhaps violated his terms of release

Yep. I believe in Scandinavia fines scale with income, and so a speeding ticket can cost $100,000 or more.

I see the point, but I also don’t see this as a particularly huge obstacle.

If a sitting (or former) president goes out to dinner, golfing, or on a short vacation to Mittimatalik, Nunavut, the Secret Service detail goes along as an assigned duty. They aren’t dining, golfing, or watching the bowhead whales, they’re guarding their assigned charge. The big difference I see is that if the fool is in jail, the agents can go home when their duty shift is over!

Yes, I’m sure that some protocols will have to be establish, but it’s not like Trump or any other president that’s put in prison for treason is going to spend time in Joliet Prison’s general population.

Let’s set some precedent already!

I wish that a multimillion dollar fine was on the table, but even those are just a cost of doing business if they aren’t accompanied by jail time.

I think everyone should have secret service protection in jail. Everyone or no one. I’m happy with both options.

Mighty give them some impetus to fix problems with jail.

Trump, as you will recall, is out on bail, which puts his freedom in question.

Would an “oh you sweet summer child” gif be too inappropriate in response to that?

He’s just going to ignore that.
He’s got a great record for paying anything.**

Jail?
Jail.
Jail would be good.

I’m certain a border crossing “containment” facility will be adequate and totally humane.
Let’s try that.

It’s the legal “shot across the bow” so that when the judge sends him to jail, T**** can’t claim he wasn’t warned about his behavior.

I wish the elves, goblins. faeries, wee folk. etc, would call her name, and lure her deep into the forest. Right now!

You’re assuming he knows what “incarcerated” means.

I think Trump should be served the standard fare and portions served to the typical inmate. He should get the same television privileges that other prisoners would be allowed, in that he could purchase a black and white set after 90 days. He could have access to the same sort of athletic facilities that typical prisoners have access to.

None of this is cruel and unusual. It would amount to a prolonged timeout. If he had a few more of those as a child, we might not be in this mess.

If he doesn’t square the debt up with the court, the conditions of his bail might be considered. I’m betting that one will be covered even if some other sucker is convinced to pony up.

He’s now one step closer to pre-trial detention. What remains is his own inability to regulate his impulses and his general campaign narrative. I think even a weekend stay (at first) would only fuel his contempt as the trial continues…

Judge Merchan also warned Trump that incarceration was an option should he continue.

Haven’t these kinds of stern warnings been happening for months now with no actual consequences? Or does it only feel that way?

I said the same thing last October, and I was wrong.

This may be unfair, but given the strong “lock everyone up” feelings of his fan base, I’m guessing that a lot of corrections officers are pro-Trump, so it’s unlikely he’d be “accidentally” hurt by another prisoner, or be left without blankets, food, or medical attention, as is otherwise SOP at most prisons, but probably worse at Riker’s.

No significant consequences. Fines really don’t faze the rich.

Every new trial inevitably brings out a new gag order and each affair is like a reset, a fresh start, for The Great Pumpkin. FWIW, Judge Merchan was hinting at pre-trial detention where the prosecuters were only asking for fines. But it’s on the table when the former Toddler-in-Chief inevitably continues to violate the latest gag order. Judge Merchan is an efficient, no nonsense judge.

I think this trial will be the opportunity to see Sleepy Donny forced to do his business on a grey steel toilet for a while even if more permanent concrete digs are likely spelled out in a different trial.

“they want to silence me,” he said through his megaphone that absolutely no one has tried to take away.

except for maybe short sellers of truth social

I don’t agree with the tactic; threatening jurors and the judges’ daughter doesn’t legally require a warning - it’s immediately jailable contempt. But given Judge Merchan’s conservative approach, it’s predictable.
