From what I remember, the danger wasn’t so much this particular mechanism of proposing amendments, it was that the theoretical agenda of such a convention wouldn’t be limited. They could rewrite the whole thing to permanently remove any democratic elements.,
And the gerrymandering that has been done thru the years has made the House of Representatives less than representative of the areas.

It’s really a matter of whether we believe the status quo is the best of all possible worlds or not
the basic problem is that republicans control the majority of state legislatures (and thus the majority of delegates to such a convention) and a convention of states is not limited by subject matter.
it might be fair… if we allowed the district of columbia, guam, american samoa, puerto rico, the us virgin islands, the northern mariana islands, and tribal governments to also have representation in the senate.
the senate gives way too much power to a very specific constituency as a result of how white supremacy played out over the years. it’s a prime example of institutionalized racist policy.
