The timing seems way too convenient.
There are many advantages to this for Trump:
-He gets out of the debates that were not favorable to him
-He won’t stop tweeting which is his main campaign medium now
-He can adjust the evolution of his disease as required by the situation and the polls: If all goes his way, he recovers with no symptoms which both proves how strong he is and how innocuous COVID is. If things go less well, he can delay his recovery, pretendo to need hospital time to gather sympathy, or even increase suspense about whether he survives. If the worst happens and he can’t hold on to the presidency, he can become on of the long-haulers severely debilitated by the virus, and too sick to stand trial.
