I always remember that bit from the Watergate hearings where one of Nixon’s cronies (Haldeman perhaps?) said in his testimony that whatever illegal things they did they felt were justified because “the other side” represented some kind of existential threat to America, like they really believed McGovern was going to hand the country over to the Soviets.
That’s still the basis for a lot of Republican thought, only now it’s been replaced by “Democrats are all satanic pedophiles.”

Even if he were arrested for voting illegally, I have a feeling he’d be going to a mental health facility rather than to prison.

I continue to be convinced that there was election rigging and that Trump is telling the truth. The thing is… the rigging was supposed to ensure his victory. Instead, mail-in voting and an unprecedented voter turnout unexpectedly created a Biden win.

This is what I’ve been saying for a while too. The reason Trump was so adamant that he won by a landslide was that somebody he believed (Putin?) told him they were arranging for it. Of course, he can’t admit that publicly.

They haven’t fundamentally changed the script, just added some new bits to make it a little “spicier” for the modern audience.
The idea that the election was supposed to be fixed in favor of Trump would also explain the fixation on Dominion voting systems. He was probably told that that was how the fix was going to be made. It is also consistent with the belief that when Trump would accuse the Democrats of something, it was usually something that Republicans had already done.
