Trump mad that U.S. intel briefed lawmakers on Russian military attack on 2020 elections

Well, I think I count as “people,” so yes?

Seldon was a genius but he was unable to forsee everything. When the Mule came into being, all Seldon’s work went out the window. And that’s what we have going on here in this country - an emotionally damaged fluke who was able to take advantage of a moment in history when too many people have abandoned faith in the future of their kind because of their personal nonsense.

Now there is an analogy! Liken Trump to The Mule! (Or The Ass, either works.) But yes, he is busily completing the demolition of the system. The difference is that in the real world, the system was teetering already, and the final demo work was left to an complete incompetent.

Fair enough–a better reading than the one I suggested may be that the DOJ is exercising the (arguably) unitary “executive power” vested in the president. But either way, it’s not reasonably subject to dispute under prevailing constitutional interpretations that the DOJ is exercising some portion of the president’s power–it’s not a part of either the legislative or the judicial branch, and it would be difficult to make an argument for it becoming part of either. Nothing in the constitution even arguably gives the legislature power to enforce its own laws, and the judicial branch is empowered only to decide cases and controversies.

As for whether the president is a king: as we’re learning, the president has extensive powers that can be checked only if one or the other of the coordinate branches (or the electoral college every four years) is interested in doing the checking.

In short: we are in an extraordinarily dangerous moment.

Wake me when they’re hacking voting machines, or stealing ballot boxes… Until then, if you are trying to protect people from Ads & Bots, then you must be really convinced that the electorate is so stupid that it needs protection from anything you don’t think they should see, and THAT should worry people more than Bots & Ads

…the glass cubicle was no longer empty.

A figure occupied it—a figure in a wheelchair! It said nothing for a moment, but closed the book upon its lap and fingered it idly. And then it smiled, and the face seemed all alive.

Welcome to BoingBoing, tovarisch. You’ll find we’re not all that susceptible to that kind of trolling.

Also, the real Paul Harvey, wrong as he was about many things, would be embarrassed by that sally.

So then the Second Foundation would be the “deep state”

and as in the book it’s just trying to keep its head down and wait out the anomaly?

Welcome to bb. You will find there is a very small Overton Window here - more like a peephole.

Somewhere in the White House basement, there’s a hologram James Madison talking about some crisis completely different from the one we’re currently facing.
