It is of course possible that the OP is a Ukrainian pro-Russian poster. A state needs to be rather dysfunctional for people to prefer to be part of Russia, but Ukraine seems to be trying hard.
All very reasonable but I think you are straw-manning me a bit. The fact that I note the history of the area doesnt mean that my argument is entirely based in the history. The new government that took over had no compunction about using artillery on their fellow Ukrainians in Donetsk and Lugansk. Now what kind of countrymen would happily aim artillery fire on their fellow Ukrainians over a political dispute? Turns out that quite a few of the “Ukrainians” who did so were from Galicia, a region which was quite sympathetic to the Bandera and the Germans when they invaded and have a deep seated hatred of people of russian ethnicity. Moreover, the use of volunteer battalions like the Azov is clearly incendiary and has ugly optics. If you find yourself on the side of the Azov with their “wolfsangel” insignia, you have to ask yourself if you should reconsider.
There was no need for a coup. Those who conducted the coup knew that elections were 9 months away. Those in the East who supported the previous government were disenfranchised in the new elections.
But all of this is much of a muchness now. The EU has no interest in incorporating Ukraine into the EU. The Americans want it but the Europeans don’t. Ukraine is a very poor country which was kept afloat by Russian subsidies. It will now be even poorer. The Russians have no interest in controlling Ukraine. They just dont want NATO surrounding them on all sides. It would make it very difficult to defend their own country.
I think the coup was stupid. I think those encouraging the coup didnt have the Ukraine’s interests at heart. But its very much a Ukrainian question now and I hope the Ukrainians find a way out. But I doubt using artillery on apartment buildings in Donetsk is part of the long term solution.
Or even loosely based in it.
I get it. You dont like Russians.
… invading other countries, sending in Little Green Men into neighboring countries, arming rebels in those countries with SAMs they use to shoot down passenger airlines, populating the internet with paid trollies to post propaganda, assassinating political enemies, carpet bombing civilians, etc. I like Russians, but I have a lot of issues with Russian governments doing objectionable things.
Because Putin’s actions and desires are reflective of every Russian at home and abroad, and criticism of them (or specifically you?) means a person holds disdain for all Russians.
the US is slacking off - so far no LGMs in Mexico or Canada and the equipped insurgents never shot down a civil wide-body airliner. even the trolling is done by volunteers!
Just you wait - once President Trump discovers Mexico won’t pay for the wall, the US will need to liberate Mexico. I’ve heard rumblings that Nieto is hiding WMDs somewhere. Surely the locals will greet us with candy and flowers for saving them.
You think the Russian linked separatists shot down that Malaysian airliner with SAMs? Ok. Why do you think that? It certainly didnt help their cause any did it? But it did help the cause of the new government which has refused to release the air traffic control tapes. There is a lot of material on this - if curious take a look at John Helmer’s website.
You think the Russians invaded Ukraine? Why do you think that? Disliking political assassination would mean you probably have an issue with several governments including the US, but also countries the US directly finances.
The detail on this stuff is all public domain. I dont want to waste your time and mine debating stuff you are not that curious about but you seem to have more of an issue with a government you do not have much influence over than one you do.
Dont get me wrong. Putin is nobodies favorite grandad. But I can make a reasonable case to say that he is defending russian national interests. I can see why politicians in the West would choose to vilify the Russian government for that. Its convenient and it helps to undermine opposition to their idiot policies. But it also stifles debate. Surely you want to think for yourself and not dismiss counter-arguments to your spoon-fed views without thought?
Or maybe not.
Прощай товарищ
No, more like we don’t like obvious sock puppets.
But thanks for outing yourself.
Again, I don’t have any problem with you being Russian. It’d be nice for you to fess up since your charade’s ridiculous, but whatever, we’re done here.

You think the Russian linked separatists shot down that Malaysian airliner with SAMs? Ok. Why do you think that?
Occam. A few days before this a high-flying Ukrainian transport aircraft was shot down, iirc undisputed attributed to the rebels. They tried to repeat the success and targeted a civil liner - bad luck, not enough training and experience. Also according to Occam I don’t think the Russian government was directly involved.

You think the Russians invaded Ukraine? Why do you think that?
Occam. A destabilized Ukraine is strategically interesting for the Russian government, especially with the current West-friendly regime.

Disliking political assassination would mean you probably have an issue with several governments including the US, but also countries the US directly finances.
Yes, I have major issues with governments using practices like targeted killings or extralegal executions. This includes the US and Russia.

No, you keep changing the debate
I’m sorry you feel like that, I am honestly trying to stay on point, aka “why it’s easier to sell Biden rather than Clinton”. I am not the one who tried several times to put it down to sex.

If nepotism is truly the focus, why don’t you say that and be done with it?
i think it was said over and over, tbh, when referring to how she got her big break.

you’re going to have to call out those Bush sons, JQ Adams, distant cousin FDR, and RFK, as well as Rand Paul and Al Gore
Oh yeah, absolutely. Did I ever claim otherwise? Gore was hammered on his family ties, and rightly so (as I said upthread). Schwarzenegger benefited by having joined the Kennedy clan, and tbh the sole existence of such “clans” is pretty shameful. GW & Jeb Bush were particularly egregious… but the whole Clinton saga IMHO is not much better, and quite blatant at times.
This would be a much more productive conversation had you created this account to discuss in any other thread,
However whatever script was trawling for “Ukraine” and “Putin” brought you here, sadly.

Crimea was russian before California was part of the United States.
To right the “injustice” of Crimea, Russia did not pursue any legal, diplomatic avenues for reacquiring that territory. There wasn’t even a glimmer of discontent from Moscow: because they didn’t want to alert their prey.
They massively invaded Crimea in a sneak attack, just when Ukraine was least able to defend itself and in the middle of a Constitutional crisis.
In the current day, this type of brazen illegality can never be rationalized let alone permitted or rewarded.
This, in addition to Russia’s invasion of East Ukraine demonstrates what fools Ukraine was to render up its nuclear capability after the Soviet breakup. They foolishly trusted Russia and will be paying the penalty for that foolishness for foreseeable future.

You think the Russian linked separatists shot down that Malaysian airliner with SAMs? Ok. Why do you think that?
The official report from the Dutch Safety Board found that Malayasia Airlines flight MH17 was destroyed by a 9N314M warhead on a series 9M38 missile fired by a Buk launcher located in rebel-held territory. My assumption is that they fucked up and mis-identified a civilian airliner as military; it wouldn’t be the first time someone did that.
What do I need to do to get one? I’m feeling left out.
Indeed. The Ukrainians have done it. As have the US Navy.
