I’ve heard there is… sort of the left wing answer to the right wing prepper movement. But that kind of libertarianism (fears the government, seeking to get ready for the fall of the state, etc) has always been more bipartisan than people realize (as have more off the wall conspiracy theories). The state of Oregon is apparently like that, there are deep pockets of libertarianism from both the left and right wing - old hippies coming together with the right wing to get the government out of the way.

I don’t think there’s any reason to keep pointing cameras at this type of evil nincompoop. We don’t need more reasons to scream into a pillow, and we’re not learning anything useful about how they think; on the subject of politics, they don’t.
If Channel 4 News really wanted to raise the debate, they’d have wrapped up the interview by saying “sorry guys, we can’t use any of this, because everything you’ve said is fucking moronic”. And then they’d have aired a segment on something important instead.
You don’t persuade an unthinking mob. Your only hope is to isolate it, wait for it to tire of its own stench, and try to carry on with real civilisation in the meantime. If you want to engage with older relatives who are Turmp voters out of sheer inflexibility, maybe try to get them into Sudoku or dance classes or whatever – try to thaw out their faculties – but politely refuse to hear “their” thoughts on politics until they get better.

Given all the circular firing we squads we see on what passes for the left wing in this country (e.g. the tiresome relitigation of the 2016 primaries), not close to the scale we see it on the right. Certainly not on this site, so perhaps you can provide some citations to back up your implication.
Sometimes a lying, grifting, narcissistic bigoted, aliterate, orange-hued case of arrested development is just what he appears to be. Liberals and progressives find it unbecoming to deny the reality of something that’s shoved in their faces on a daily basis.

I just finished listening to “It Can’t Happen Here” like a couple of days ago. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite being depressed by it most of the time. It seems uncanny how predictive it was (even of the events to follow in Germany shortly after its publication) but i suppose the mechanisms of fascism are formulaic enough that an educated writer should be able to predict the way it would unfold.
