nice thought. remote, rustic, impossible to escape. yet, Devilâs Island was French (as iâm sure you knew).
but for island prisons that are US territory, Alcatraz still has the prison infrastructure or, maybe Fort Zachary in the Dry Tortugas - the island site where Samuel Mudd, the doctor who set John Wilkes Bootheâs leg after the assassination of Lincoln, was imprisoned. remote, very rustic and a long, sharkey swim to Key West!
i would suggest Gitmo, but that may have the same drawback as LeavenworthâŠ
