Trump threatens GOP control of Twitter, Facebook: 'We will strongly regulate, or close them down'

I was referring to the media, who would follow him to any new platform. As would his ‘followers’. Those two groups are all he needs. Of course, many critics would foolishly take the bait too.

(And @Shuck )

NB I did not specify re him moving to a right-wing new social media platform. Just moving to new one. The media would have to go with him ‘because he has to be reported on’ - just like they ‘have to’ attend the WH press circuses.

Barr knows that Trump is stupid and impulsive enough to sabotage his own electoral chances. Insiders say that they’ve been busy restraining those impulses for a long time and it’s getting worse, and that Barr (to name one) have been protecting him from himself.

And yet Barr has abused the power of his office on Trump’s behalf in unprecedented ways that did nothing to further either Republican policy goals or Trump’s reelection bid. For example, his recent intervention in the Flynn case undermined the legitimacy of the entire DOJ and provided no tangible benefit to anyone other than Michael Flynn.

I agree. The point I was trying to make was that if Trump was on a new app just preaching to the choir, there should be a way for the press and for the opposition to know what he’s saying without buying into that app.

I don’t have twitter, but rely on news services and even boingboing to keep me abreast of his crazy tweets (essentially scraping his tweets for me without my supporting twitter or counting as a “follower”). I think that is important. There needs to be a way to shine light on the crazy without supporting the crazy.

I disagree. The exposure is necessary.

He continued, “When I hear people say it’s worse than it’s ever been I disagree completely.” Smith said race relations are not as bad as they were in the 1960s or the 1860s.
“We are talking about race in this country more clearly and openly than we have almost ever in the history of this country,” said Smith. “Racism is not getting worse, it’s getting filmed.”

Ah… agree to disagree on that. Macaroons, Mounds bars, anything with coconut in them are (for me, not you obviously) the devil’s anus. But you knock yourself out, and I hope you enjoy your treat.

Wait, so now he’s for strong regulation?

He’s threatening Twitter’s business. It in their interests to dump him. Trump is weak and the weak get dumped.

I’m not a law-talker, but I don’t see what authority he can claim over social media companies. Let him try to make up something and try take them to court. They have lots of money and more expensive lawyers than even the DOJ.
Trump says shit all the time and does nothing. Remember the revoking of security clearances that didn’t happen?

Need the military to buy in to make that work. I don’t see that happening.

Pipe it to an old teletype in the basement. Once a day, go down and tear off the paper and bring it up to read. Unhooking the news from the Trump Cycle would help a lot.

Or bloody insurrection.

I’ve been thinking it really comes down to this:

Trump The Tyrant

it’s that simple for history, and should be used as a hashtag #TrumpTheTyrant

good for easy to grasp lawn signs and stickers

(bonus he’ll have to have someone explain the word to him)

It’s not just a matter of whether they have the law on their side. It’s a matter of how much bullying they’re willing to take before they cave.

If they were willing to endure right-wing partisan wrath in the name of standing up for responsible dissemination of information on their platform they would have banned the guy back during the early days of the Birther controversy.

I’m sure this will be a pinnacle of reasoned argument and sound logic.

The second amendment is like the first, except that also protects the common man who wasn’t blessed with oratory prowess.

I know we shouldn’t mock etc but sometimes only humour will do.

Of course the risible thing about Trumps argument is that, if there was some conspiracy against him in 2016 why on earth did he win the election?
I don’t know where I saw it but someday said of Trump it was the first time they’d come across a ‘bad winner’… deary me
