this is the stuff that really pisses me off! no future for hubble or a simple replacement, because its too expensive? the NRO shot at least 17(!) KH-11-keyhole-satellites - which are mostly similar to hubble with the same main-mirror - into orbit. fucking seventeen! I am sure the fucking United States Intelligence Community could spare at the very least just ONE of these for a hubble replacement?!?
Moe, Larry, and Curly did.
“Nice rocket ya got there. Be a shame if something … happened to it.”
#IHerebyOrder
The Overton Window in the U.S. has shifted so far to the right that “moderate centrist” now equals “fascist-adjacent”. Which is the way of things in any country where right-wing populists have been handed any sort of real power – they don’t get anywhere without conservative enablers who claim to oppose them but end up actively or passively helping them.
Not to be confused with #HerbieOrder, a far preferable state of affairs.
Has anyone ever noticed that ‘moderates’ and ‘centrists’ nearly always use the language of the far-right and attack anyone vaguely left wing? If you don’t believe me, go and look at the comment history of self-described ‘moderates’ on twitter, facebook or reddit.
They also tend to be incredibly superficial too. It’s like they know that their arguments have no real depth and won’t stand up to scrutiny.
By the way, the only good president was William Henry Harrison.
Maybe I’m wrong, and debate really does work.
Noticed it? These days I take it as a given. I’ve also noticed that when they fret about assaults on the Bill of Rights their main focus is on the Second Amendement; this is followed in priority by the free-speech provisions of the First Amendment, their main worry about which is that Nazis and racists won’t be allowed a fair hearing in the “free marketplace of ideas” (strangely enough, they go silent when the head of the executive branch of government calls the press “the enemy of the people”). They avoid talking about the 14th Amendment, but I’d wager good money they have simply fascinating “contrarian” views on it.
Another thing I’ve noticed in regard to their use of language is that they usually depict themselves in contrast with straw-man “cultural elites” (e.g. people who supposedly care more about a politician’s taste in suits and mustard than about his droning policy).
For what it’s worth, the NRO has apparently donated some surplus hardware.
When NRO donated two Optical Telescope Assemblies (OTA) to NASA in January 2011, they were suspected to be KH-11 series “extra hardware”, but were later attributed to the Future Imaging Architecture program. The donated OTAs feature a three-mirror anastigmat(TMA) optical design, without the tertiary mirror. The f/1.2 primary has a diameter of 2.4 m, and is refocused by the secondary to give an overall f/8 focal ratio, making the optical telescope assembly shorter than that of HST. With the addition of the tertiary mirror, this will produce a much wider field than Hubble’s 2-mirror f/24 Ritchey–Chrétien optical design, making it a potentially ideal observatory for dark energy or other astrophysics surveys. The secondary mirror is mounted on a hexapod to increase the side-viewing and ground scanning ability for the originally intended reconnaissance mission.
While I disagree that it’s exactly the same thing (I mean, orange nr 1 is hated mostly for what he says, not mostly four his lustrous hue), I do agree the default-auto-hate sometimes gets dialed a notch too high.
Which is imho dangerous, because it leads to people thinking donald is ‘too ridiculous to be re-elected’. I know I’ve fallen into the trap of thinking nobody in his right mind could possibly expect him to be re-elected after reading a bit much on BB. Before you know it we’ll have 4 more years of this buffoon… :shudder:
I hate him for what he does. His actions show that he does not view me as human.
There are plenty of other people on the BBS who are in the same position, are we all dialed a notch too high?
I agree he does a lot of awful things. That should have been ‘says and does’.
I just mean that every silly thing he does gets lots of (negative) attention and I fear it will make people forget that there is a very real chance he will get elected again. And that scares me.
Q put him there. It’s the only rational explanation for this alternate timeline we’ve been thrust into.
Now that does make sense…
How did you feel about the droning policy of Trump’s predecessor?
I opposed his loosening of rules of engagement for drones – something that hasn’t changed under his successor. That opposition hasn’t changed despite the fact that Il Douche is a poorly dressed boor with the tastes of an 11-year-old boy, because (despite Law’s straw-manning) that’s not important in that particular discussion. Ask anyone here who considers themselves left of these so-called “moderate centrists” and you’ll likely get the same answer.
How about you?
i think something similar to star trek’s unit 31 exists irl. they’re probably the ones with the alien shit, if we have alien shit.
Careful, or he’ll think everyone who opposed Obama’s droning policy is a Communist.
If you want to see inconsistency, ask most American Libertarians their thoughts on droning. For all that they’re supposedly opposed to the power of the state, they can be quick to make excuses for droning policies if the targets are brown and Muslim (see also their approach to police violence against PoC). To their credit, though, they save the stuff about suits and mustard for their pathetic attempts at tu quoque arguments.
