Joking aside, the serious large scale Rockefeller type investors are likely not too worried about the day to day fluctuations.
A big crash will get their attention - and all the talking heads have been expecting one for years now. Talking heads are about as accurate as my dog at stock predictions, but it will crash someday - and Trump’s actions are random enough to spook many people at the same time…
I’ve only known one Secret Service member, but he was definitely not the kind to mutiny, regardless of who he is ordered to protect. He’s the kind who would take a bullet for Obama or Trump, without question.
The more troubling issue is that even if he is impeached, the line of his official successors, starting with VP, is progressively worse and worse. One might even be in favor of The Orange One staying in power because the alternatives are even grimmer.
Yeah, and they want us to be excited and enthusiastic because they’re getting worse slightly less quickly than the Republicans. That is not how you win elections let alone govern.
I have a deep suspicion that if Trump goes down Pence goes down with him. Starting from the campaign he’s shown himself willing to lie, bold face, in public for Trump. To back nearly anything. He’s a full and enthusiastic participant in whatever Trumps got going on.
He has direct ties to the Flynn end of things at the very least. And there’s indications Mueller is poking the vp with a stick.
Now he seems smart enough to back away slowly, to insulate himself. And to throw Trump under the bus if need be. But given what we saw from him in the early days I suspect it’s too late and he’ll be implicated in anything serious. And even if he survives a Trump ouster or resignation he’ll effectively be a lame duck. If it goes that far I don’t think the stink would wash off.
Trump doesn’t scare me. Trump supporters terrify me. A man, you can fight through any number of means-with the law, with public opinion, with the truth, with violence. An angry mob, diversified across 2/3 of the country, not so much.
Trump will never win reelection. I Think there’s probably only one person in politics that could possibly lose to him, and she already did.
What worries me is what happens after the election, or during any attempts to impeach, indict, or remove from office.
A third of this country believes that something can be known to be false purely by its having been printed in the New York Times. These are people who think school shootings are false flag operations, global warming is a hoax, And anything to the left of Breitbart is liberal propaganda. There is no conceivable proof which will change their minds.
They will interpret literally anything that happens to this president as a conspiracy at best, and a call to arms at worst. I am terrified of what happens on that day.
And the truly horrifying thing? It’s also the one thing that I actually kind of loved a tiny bit about Trump-the Republicans spent the last four decades cultivating their rabid base, and he just walked in and took it from them like plucking an hors d’oeuvre off a plate. Watching it happen, to be honest, was incredibly amusing-but what it actually means is that even the Republican machine is going to be unable to control these people. They have completely lost control of the monster they created.
More to the point, he led them to a high-profile defeat on their own turf—but those are small potatoes. He could also trigger a major economic/national security crisis. He could be exposed in crimes that are far worse than what we’ve heretofore imagined. People are extrapolating the next three years based upon 2017 and assuming that he’s not going to do something radically different than what we’ve already seen, and yet it’s clear that his mental state is deteriorating and that he’s isolating himself from anyone who might hope to keep his horrible judgement in check.
It’s very unlikely that Trump is impeached, as it should be.
Trump has come more or less as advertised, you can’t impeach him for being what everyone knew him to be.
However, if Mueller or a congressional investigation find a big smoking gun that can change. Fox News and the GOP may figure that dealing with a revolt from the right fringe is less risky then a General Election with an outed Manchurian Candidate.
You know that’s not how impeachment works right? You don’t impeach because a president didn’t live up to his advertising.
It’s a formal process for removing an office holder from power. Because they’ve commited a crime or abused that power.
The term is high crimes and misdemeanors.
There are very plausible reasons to believe Trump has abused his power, And commited impeachable crimes while in office. Those acts do not go away if impeachment is a practical impossiblity. And he remains criminally liable for them, And any criminal acts he committed before entering office. Another area where there are pretty damn plausible reasons to be concerned.
Whether Trump will be impeached is a very different question than if he should or if he meets the standard. And none of it has very much to do with whether he “came as advertised”. If he had run on a platform of “I will freely violate the law” and the did so. He’d still be impeachable.
It’s not a process by which the public changes their mind. Or one side removes a political opponent. It requires specific actions that meet a legal standard.
The rule is 2/3, so 67 (>66.666666666666666666666666666666666etc.) does the job. No tie-breaker would kick in. And why in the hell would he vote that way? “I don’t feel like becoming President today.”?
