I disagree. He wrecked the economy, sold arms to the Iranians, miring Iran and Iraq in a brutal war, pushed for greater conflict all across the global south in his bid to end “communism” and his role in ending the Cold War over all is highly overstated. He was an awful president, who set us up for what we’re dealing with today. He fucked all of us, especially those of us who are not rich, white men.

Kubrick depicted the same process in Full Metal Jacket.
When that conditioning sticks with a person, it’s not surprising that he’d see virtue in the duopoly party that’s been explicitly contemptuous of empathy since at least Ronald Reagan.

Or, the Iranians hated Carter enough to hold off on the deal that Carter had negotiated until Reagan could get the credit.
Or, Reagan made a secret deal to supply Iran with arms and unfreeze assets if Iran would hold the hostages until his inauguration.

If by that you’re saying we needed the destruction of the middle class, the rich getting richer, the removal of regulatory safeguards that would prevent the world we live in today where the few control almost everything, repeatedly providing arms to terrorists, creating al Queda, meddling in South and Central American democracies, causing mass bankruptcies and increased poverty, ignoring the AIDS epidemic, gutting social security, and all while causing massive increases to the national debt? Then, yeah, mission accomplished.

Not really, though. Not for him. He is constantly blaming other people whenever things go poorly, but claiming he doesn’t take any advice, usually. I remember reading the transcript of a very painful-to-read interview from early in his term where the interviewers where just trying to get him to talk about if he and Melania had talked at all about him running for office. That was all, had they discussed it. And he wouldn’t answer.
The fact that so many Americans think this guy is awesome will never cease to make my head explode.

As a Black person in America, you should already know;
It’s not about anything “we” have ever ‘done’ to them; it’s about the ugly racist history of this country and the fact that the very existence of Black people here is a constant reminder of their flaming hypocrisy.
It’s about the White supremacy that is baked into the very foundation of our society, and it always has been.

I can’t feel sorry for Melania. She knew what she was doing when she hooked up with him. As FLOTUS, she has consistently showed Americans how she feels about the poor and marginalized.
She and the rest of the Trump clan can fuck right off as far as I’m concerned.
