when you look at what political scientists are referring to when they say “soft authoritarianism”, singapore and hungary get mentioned a lot.
some academic terms are very malleable, though. A good portion of what comes out of Russia’s bullshit factories sounds like “postmodernism.”

BTW I have no problems voting for Republicans who have an actual plan to help the average person. Trump only helps the wealthy.

Actually we had two Republican Governors in my state that did good things for average people and Ronald Reagan was the man we needed in charge back in the 1980s. I voted for all of them for two terms. Just remember “Don’t blame me. I’m from Massachusetts”.

The guy who embrace states rights with a wink and nod to southern racists, cut taxes that helped the wealthy (and not everyone else), cut funding for mental health and threw thousands of people with mental health problems out into the street, gave us the deregulated landscape that unleashed the current neo-liberal hell-scape, laughed as gay men died of a disease, sent our troops around the world to support right wing fascists, built up our war machine, sold arms to one group to send money to another, ended the fairness doctrine, etc, etc… that Reagan?

I didn’t say I liked him, i said he was the man we needed. I was in the military back then and wondered why we were letting Iran hold our diplomats and their staff hostage.
Yes hindsight is 20/20 (Iran/Contra) but during that period Jimmy Carter had the Air Force using .22 rounds through M-16s for training purposes and his hostage rescue mission had failed. Reagan got elected and the hostages were released allowing me to get out of the Air Force without having to be deployed to a warzone. I could go on about the Berlin Wall but I think what I’ve posted shows where my head was at when voting for him…
Nice that his administration worked out for you. Not everyone was so lucky. I guess when you say he was the man “we” needed, you mean a very small subset of the country…Mindy gave lots of examples where other people desperately needed someone else. Maybe have some empathy?
