Trump's lawyers appear to have really screwed up in his fraud trial

How much would you LOVE if Barron just turned this 💩 train around & become a lawyer for the ACLU.

(...in a perfect world.)

Like just a spectacularly trained property rights lawyer —workin for 'the good guys'— knocking out wrongful eviction cases left & right.

if Barron morphed into Abbie Hoffman —the snake ate itself— and we all just went back to our normal lives.

...how nice would that be!!?! 😌

i’m going to be a downer, because i guess i feel like that’s how we’ve gotten to this point… wanting for things to be normal and not acknowledging how messed up things really are.

not just with ■■■■■, but environmental catastrophe, capitalism, bigotry, white supremacy

maybe when he’s locked up ( or shuffles off to the land of brimstone ) people will just go back to feeling like, hey it’s all normal again, problem solved

but normal hasn’t really been great for everyone. and i really hope people to continue to be worked up about where we’re at and where things actually need to be

So when TFG said “surround myself only with the best and most serious people” was he referring to Jack Smith and the DA’s who currently have him surrounded? Doesn’t seem to apply to his lawyers.

I thought (or heard) that the reason the lawyers opted for a bench trial was that they didn’t want their client poor-mouthing and threatening all twelve members of a jury, and anyway he’s already gone off on one about the judge…

I honestly think Ivanka is not a terrible person. In an alternate timeline where DJT never started with birtherism, I could imagine her being a dem-side congressperson for a Manhattan district.

It’s six jurors in a NY civil suit and the defense loses its chance to confuse triers of fact or use arguments which are flashy but legally frivolous

But then again Manhattan residents willing to sit on a jury might take issue with the fact his efforts unnaturally raised property prices by creating false comparables.

She didn’t get to choose having an awful father, but she always chose to work for him. She chose to help him in the the campaign and the Whitehouse. She based her entire career otherwise on being his pretty stooge. She did get her choice of partner, and chose an asshole who buddied up to dictators like MBS. She could have taken the Tiffany route and not had her full time gig being giving her dad cover.

She profited off her father’s corruption and has engaged in similar financial shenanigans. The only reason causes of action against her were dropped were procedural statute of limitations issues.

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion; it’s not something I feel very strongly about in any case.

The pressures on an individual person inheriting operation of a family business like this would be… weird. Maybe the right analogy is that I think she’s, like, Roman Roy levels of bad, not papa Logan Roy-level. Roman is at least partly a sympathetic figure!

At the end Roman throws his lot in with a fascist candidate for President, so that tracks.

Really, though, she was a bad person long before the birtherism. She spent years enabling his pre-MAGA grifting and sleaze.

Its not just unpopular, its unsupported by facts and her history.

She was born into a family of crooks and scumbags, but she chose to profit immensely from doing so. Moreso than her brothers have. She’s not sympathetic to me at all because she was an active participant and personal beneficiary of some of the worst things her father did in the business and political world.

She is the Michael Corleone of the Trump Family. If there is anything left of her family’s wealth after the lawsuits and likely criminal convictions, she will be running it with an iron hand.

Yeah, this.

Also, trump needs to think that he’s smarter than everyone around him, so apart from the fact that the pool of available lawyers is already restricted to the ones who don’t know or care that he’s a deadbeat, it is further restricted to the ones who are even dumber than him. Admittedly the Venn diagram of those two groups approaches a perfect circle.

I’ve always maintained that this is how it would end for this criminal organisation: the NY buildings sold off to the (nasty in their own right) Kushners for bargain prices to “keep them in the family”; Ivanka running the show using her blank-eyed husband as a front; and Cokehead and Numbskull being given well-compensated no-show jobs with the in-laws as Executive Vice Presidents of Keep These Idiots Far Away from the Actual Business. The Kushners might let Biff keep his name on the 5th Avenue building, but otherwise it will be their (and Ivanka’s) show.

If the Trump Organization is liquidated, the assets will be sold off by receivers who are (or should be) independent of the Trumps and will be looking to sell the properties to the highest bidder, not in a sweetheart deal with the Kushners.

It appears that Trump does not own Trump Tower. Perhaps some bright spark at GMAC Commercial Mortgage has already commissioned a graphic designer to create a logo for “721 Fifth Avenue”.

I’m not sure if it will be liquidated in the sense of bankruptcy. It won’t be allowed to operate as a corporate entity in NY state anymore, but it may be given permission to sell off the assets at a reasonable market value (the definition of which I can see the Kushners and Biff colluding to corrupt).
