After thinking about it, I wonder if this is a snide tactic in response to what they perceive to be “Cancel Culture.”

You must have a very different experience with M-Ls in your life than I have. There’s been an active presence kicking around the net going back to the days when Usenet was cutting edge. How well they’ve managed that presence is certainly fair game, but they’ve definitely been there.
