UK Political Thread, part the second

That sound you hear is another screeching u-turn because they are incapable of doing the morally right thing until they need convenient cover for the latest sleaze - in this case party central.

But wait… i thought the Tories were the party of low tax and it’s Labour the ones who “lust” after high taxes?

I managed about 10 seconds and i’ll grieve the loss of those 10 seconds for the rest of my days.

Mhairi Black is not wrong.

JFC, could he have less shame? I mean, it’s completely fucking transparent what he’s done and why he’s done it. I’m surprised he didn’t just rename it the “Boris get out of jail free card” code.

I know most have seen this before, but here it is again.

ETA I’ve been reading The New European newspaper a lot recently. Alastair Campbell’s weekly diary has often been spot on. Reading it every week is something of a safety valve and a reminder that once upon a time there were more civilised people in No 10.

Here’s a selection re Boris’s inability to stick to the code and the deleterious effect on public life.

And an interesting Dorries comment at the end of this article

But didn’t you get the memo? This isn’t a tax. It’s a levy.

Completely different.

In the same way that “lying scumbag” is different to “Boris Johnson”.

Riiiiiiight…

Just as the £200 “energy rebate” isn’t a loan.

I thought they’d done another “not at all a U-turn” on that. Is that not now a simple gift of £400 off our bills?

I believe so, the £200 loan was back before they had to save their backsides over the latest frat party revelations. We are now several screeching u-turns deep into this.

There’s plenty of precedent, from Italy and Berlusconi who passed a law saying people over 70 convicted of a crime no longer had to go to jail, but could get house arrest. This was when he was neck deep in the Ruby underage solicitiation case, and just turned 70…

Makes sense.

The new orders would empower police to put electronic tags on disruptive demonstrators and restrict where they go, who they meet and what they do in person or online, even if they have not committed a crime.

Every tour group should provide an opportunity to piss on her grave.

In the end she did provide a non-binary bathroom.
