Yes you are, you’re assuming bigotry from a theological position[/quote]
Where do I say that? You are not arguing in good faith.

OK, let me be clear, with words that are actually mine and not in anyone’s head. I believe the following (note that “you” here is generic, not referring to you, caze):

  1. If you believe that being gay, black, Jewish, or anything of this sort is a sin, then you are a bigot. If you redefine “bigot” to mean “12 feet tall and wears an aspidastra on his head” then you can probably convince yourself that you are not a bigot, but everyone else will justifiably see you as bigoted.

  2. If you equivocate when asked whether being gay, black, Jewish, or anything of this sort is a sin, then you are a bigot, even if 2 years later you whisper “no”.

  3. If you try to argue that your hateful beliefs are actually based on some belief system to which you have subscribed, that is not a justification for your beliefs. (Note that this is a hypothetical, and not an assertion about the truth of the antecedent.)

  4. Claiming that calling out bigoted beliefs is a form of bigotry is bullshit.

  5. Tolerance can itself be evidence of bigotry; it depends on whether it is because of your beliefs, or in spite of them. That it is generally not as nefarious a form of bigotry as intolerance does not let it off the hook.

  6. If you are a political party other than Ukip or the National Front, you can probably find a spokesman or leader who doesn’t attract repeated speculation about how homophobic they are. If you can’t, then your party deserves to die. If you can, then maybe you should go with one. (It looks from the returns like many Lib-Dems agree with this.)
