Labour have gained Battersea.
Labour gain Bury North from the Tories. When I went through there it was another place where there were no Tory signs to be seen.
“May said: “It is a fact that if we lose just six seats, we will lose our majority and Jeremy Corbyn will become prime minister”. We do not yet know the final result, but we intend to hold her to that …”
–Tom Watson
The deputy leader of the SNP has just lost his seat, Moray, to the Conservatives
Yeah, blimey. SNP taking hits and they looked impregnable. I guess independence really hasn’t played well this time.
They were never going to hold the 95% of the seats they got the last time, but if it goes down to 60-70% that would be a surprise. That would still leave them with a mandate to push for another indi ref though, not sure why people on the telly are saying otherwise. The Tories seem to be benefiting from the anti-independence voters there.
Nick Clegg looks unhappy
Farron in trouble too, he’s not been a great leader, but it’s not like there were many better options at the time.
Goodbye, Nick Clegg
Shame. Hopefully they’ll pick up seats elsewhere, like the polling suggests.

Yes you are, you’re assuming bigotry from a theological position[/quote]
Where do I say that? You are not arguing in good faith.
OK, let me be clear, with words that are actually mine and not in anyone’s head. I believe the following (note that “you” here is generic, not referring to you, caze):
-
If you believe that being gay, black, Jewish, or anything of this sort is a sin, then you are a bigot. If you redefine “bigot” to mean “12 feet tall and wears an aspidastra on his head” then you can probably convince yourself that you are not a bigot, but everyone else will justifiably see you as bigoted.
-
If you equivocate when asked whether being gay, black, Jewish, or anything of this sort is a sin, then you are a bigot, even if 2 years later you whisper “no”.
-
If you try to argue that your hateful beliefs are actually based on some belief system to which you have subscribed, that is not a justification for your beliefs. (Note that this is a hypothetical, and not an assertion about the truth of the antecedent.)
-
Claiming that calling out bigoted beliefs is a form of bigotry is bullshit.
-
Tolerance can itself be evidence of bigotry; it depends on whether it is because of your beliefs, or in spite of them. That it is generally not as nefarious a form of bigotry as intolerance does not let it off the hook.
-
If you are a political party other than Ukip or the National Front, you can probably find a spokesman or leader who doesn’t attract repeated speculation about how homophobic they are. If you can’t, then your party deserves to die. If you can, then maybe you should go with one. (It looks from the returns like many Lib-Dems agree with this.)
Vince Cable has retaken Twickenham.
You keep repeating this as if it’s some kind of fact, but it’s not. Again, you either don’t understand what bigotry is, or don’t understand how Christians view sin. If you think that everyone is a sinner, does that mean that you’re bigoted against everyone?
If you equivocate when asked whether being gay, black, Jewish, or anything of this sort is a sin, then you are a bigot, even if 2 years later you whisper “no”.
More bulshit. Faron didn’t want to talk about his religious views, he wasn’t equivocating about anything, all he wanted to talk about was the policies he wanted to bring about, and those policies were the exact opposite of bigoted ones. There was nothing whispered about his “No” either.
If you try to argue that your hateful beliefs are actually based on some belief system to which you have subscribed, that is not a justification for your beliefs. (Note that this is a hypothetical, and not an assertion about the truth of the antecedent.)
He doesn’t have any hateful beliefs. You have ignorant beliefs.
Claiming that calling out bigoted beliefs is a form of bigotry is bullshit.
Correct, but that’s not happening here, you are ignorantly calling someone bigoted because of religious beliefs they don’t even hold, beliefs which aren’t even necessarily bigoted in the first place.
Tolerance can itself be evidence of bigotry; it depends on whether it is because of your beliefs, or in spite of them. That it is generally not as nefarious a form of bigotry as intolerance does not let it off the hook.
Farron’s political beliefs aren’t ones of simple tolerance, they are of tolerance, protection and legal equality.
If you are a leader of any political party then you’ll find no shortage of people willing to smear you with ignorant bulshit.
Theresa May does not look happy
Corbyn is calling on her to resign.
"Corbyn says May should go because she has lost seats, lost votes and lost confidence
This is what Jeremy Corbyn said about Theresa May.
The prime minister called the election because she wanted a mandate. Well the mandate she’s got is lost Conservative seats, lost votes, lost support and lost confidence. I would have thought that is enough for her to go actually." https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2017/jun/08/general-election-results-2017-uk-live-labour-tories-corbyn-may-election-results-live-news-line
Sigh. May keeps her seat.
Standard operating face i thought. At least she’s not attempting to smile, yeesh…
Farron has won.
Some bookies now predicting a Tory majority, she’s not going to resign if that happens, though if it’s a slim majority she might not lead them in the next election, they’re not going to want to have another leadership battle during the brexit negotiations though.
Yeah, I remember these discussions from the 70s, when racists would tell blacks that they didn’t really understand what racism was, and (some) evangelicals would tell Jews that it was out of of love that they kept telling us we were going to hell.
You can hate everyone and still be a bigot. Seems pretty obvious to me. Moreover, if you hate everyone, but only single out one or two subgroups for specific mention by name, that is pretty good evidence for the bigotry.
Maybe now that your guy has won he will stop with the evasions already.
