In this case it was probably “Oh, I do hope they can finally buy that badly needed equipment for the library. It’s been going to heck.”
State Universities aren’t over-funded in general, a lot of them just happen to have their priorities wrong.

That was NH the UNH hockey coach was the highest paid state employee prior to the current president and his enormous contract. What really sucks about this is that our illustrious state house of Representatives will use this as an excuse to further cut state support of this school. Of course this administration hasn’t shown the greatest financial acumen, they spent $450,000 or so to get a new logo that is nearly universally hated by the alumni. That must be why I can’t bring myself to support the university and donate.
This was the first time i read UNH and wished that it was the other UNH, the University of New Haven.

I’m sure we’d all be willing to pony up a total of $4M more if your scenario came to pass. And worth every penny, too.
