Venezuela may be offering Snowden asylum, but "it can’t handle the truth"

Hmmm, so I guess everyone is wrong except that economist. And anecdotes are not really useful in such a discussion.

And with regard to Ecuador, it seems Ecuador is suing Chevron for environmental destruction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuwwFHSErzM.

The U.S. involvement hasn’t been definitively been proved, to this day.

Nice Strawman. Where do I say that?

You should read about Micro-History then. Interesting and most useful.

You actually brought me a travel piece? Seriously?

You asked for a positive piece, didn’t you?

You gave an example of one economist that challenged the claims of massive poverty reduction under Chavez to discredit the claims.

Yes, a positive piece of serious journalism, not something about how the food is nice in Caracas.

Look, you can play with words all day and tell me about “micro-history”, but that doesn’t change the fact that there has been significant poverty reduction in Venezuela, according to every source I’ve ever seen or heard. I could spend an hour bringing you links, but you can do that yourself if you care.

Already posted in this thread. And sorry, just rehashed theories and off-the record statements, nothing more.

To set the record straight: I do believe in the U.S. involvement in Chile and Guatemala. But at least in those cases, there is a trail of documents to prove the involvement. I don’t see that here.

And that is not a serious piece of journalism?

That’s factually incorrect. Ecuador uses US dollars as its currency. The old Sucre bills are not in circulation since early 2000s. Again, please inform yourself better when speaking about these subjects. And be more humble to others, as it is obvious that you lack knowledge and experience. You don’t even know something as basic as the currency of Ecuador and here you are trying to educate us about the region.

That means that because the govt was stupid and inefficient, despite all the talk and brouhaha we are still wasting money paying for interest in debt, even if we just had an oil boom, and oil went from 10 dollars to 100 dollars a barrel.

Yawn. Again, obsessed with the US instead of dealing with the reality of each country.
And, demonstrably wrong: Argentina: Increases of Cash Handouts to Poor - The New York Times

And that example I gave support the distortion of my words exactly how?

A positive piece about Venezuela:

Bummer, they destroyed that policy and now it’s much worse.

That “fact” is being disputed. And so far, I believe Francisco Rodriguez claims, he has a solid academic rep. His assertions make more sense to me, considering the reality we are living down here.

I think that’s how everyone feels, these days. Everyone who’s sane, that is. I remember when all this was fields. Now look at it; Wiretaps, as far as the eye can see.

So now I have to do your homework, and prove your assertions?

Onus probandi: The burden of proof lies on the party that make the claim…

OSGuido, he just doesn’t wan’t to admit he was wrong when he made this statement:

Hey @Ygret and @jgratero if you are going to reply to one person 3 times in a row, can you please consolidate those replies into a single post with 3 quotes, as @OSGuido did above?

Otherwise it creates lot more work for us poor readers to slog through the topic, and it unnecessarily multiplies the amount of metadata (author, dates, post controls) per unit of reply.
