For a country that can easily get an 99.999% vaccination rate, folks sure are putting very little faith in their government.

They know that the default mode for their government is draconian and heavy-handed. They may be forced to comply but, as this video shows, they’ll do what they can to avoid it.

Someone with a potentially deadly contagious disease is in the store. We are going to lock you in here with them for two days.

A lot of folks haven’t read World War Z over there (mostly because it was banned there lol).

They missed a good chance to LARP SCP-3008.

Always note your halfway-point emergency exit when navigating an Ikea.

So, free Swedish meatballs during lockdown, right?

And Dime bars,

And all the flat-pack furniture you can assemble.

I can think of worse places to be locked up.

Nothing to read though - all those books on display are blank!

Based on a report on the radio this morning they won’t stay at the IKEA store but are to be transferred to some sort of quarantine facility.

Meanwhile some 80,000 tourists can’t leave Hainan:

At our local IKEA the books aren’t blank. But if you can’t read Swedish, they may as well be.

The Chinese vaccine is very far from being efficient.

“or prevention of severe disease, BioNTech’s vaccine effectiveness in people 80 and older was 84.5%, compared with just 60.2% for Sinovac; for protection against death, there was a gap of about 20 percentage points, with BioNTech at 88.2% and Sinovac at 66.8%.”

Having all citizen tracked with they app, it will be easy to lock them later just looking at their past trips.
This is what the APP is designed for.
“Did you went lately in a contact of a person that may be positive?” And the little green dot turn to red for all these that where at IKEA at this time. Done

It’s good to remember that it’s an enormous lumbering bureaucracy that makes a lot of mistakes, despite all their appearances of efficiency with all their apps, face recognition, coloured QR codes, etc. This American Life did a story about the mandatory quarantines there and how often they go wrong. People get locked up in school gymnasiums or whatever for weeks at a time with no warning (causing the deaths of family pets and other horrors) based on unreliable testing procedures, bungled paperwork, and unreliable technology stacks.

The people living with all that are quite aware of the flaws in the system, and thus are not necessarily inclined to immediately comply with something as silly as this random sudden store lockdown.

Plus there’s also the deliberate misuse of the system to quell protests about unrelated banking scandals and whatnot. The population is right not to be too trusting of their government.
