Canadian cities in the spring and summer are some of the best places I have been to. And I have been a lot of places. Canada in winter is OK. Ish.

Toboggans are flat bottomed. That boat has runners attached. I would say that it is more like bob skates on a boat.

Considering they are practicing for a dragon boat race, the shortness of the poles are necessary if you want to replicate the physics of a real paddle. Using longer poles would make it go faster, sure, but you wouldn’t be building the correct muscle memory needed when you’re on the (liquid) water.

This looks to be a great adaptation for practicing on ice, all around - you get the reach-and-rotate of the paddle stroke, and can practice the most important bit - timing. That’s the main thing that wins races!
