One thing I loved about “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was how it felt like a revival of practical effects. CGI hot dog hands just aren’t there yet.
All those clips are from one filmmaker’s studio; Karel Zeman.
I have a love for practical effects/stop-motion animation too but this Blender animation video surprised me as to what can be achieved with computer graphics.
a dreamy, magical quality… a person scaling a verticle cliff, and more.
Maybe Mark meant a ‘magicle’ quality? /s
Still, some of those effects were quite cuticle.
But I do agree, there’s more ‘personality’ to the manual/physical effects than much of the CGI stuff.
Zeman’s works was extraordinary not just for its practical fx but for the overall “art” of the stuff - his films (even the live action ones) were illustrations - love his stuff
