Video of House stenographer getting yanked from floor after outburst, as lawmakers vote to end shutdown

Oh, no! There are people with mental illness all around us! Everybody panic until we can go back to ignoring them!

The only solution is for everyone to carry guns. Like, two or three per person if possible. More guns makes everything better and solves every problem.

It only took 74 posts in before someone finally thought of her as a human being instead of a ‘crazy’ to be gawked and laughed at. Thanks for your post. It is a pity this thread is so full of people who only find humor in this.

Tee hee. People applying logic to the Bible.

Are people with mental illnesses supposed to act like the ‘crazy’ people on TV? Or is that just your stereotype. Perhaps you might want to examine that. Here’s a suggestion: each person that has a mental illness is a person first who happens to have a disorder. They are not a stereotype first.

Thinking of her as a human - You are making an assumption that she is mentally ill, and not simply following a valid knowledge base and belief structure which happens to be alien to your own. It’s easy to stereotype those who believe that secret societies exist and do harm. Maybe she has no disorder at all.

That said, the most deliberate, cautious, freaky people I can think of are serial killers. Pretty likely to have something gone awry in the old noggin that lot is.

Thanks for putting the words in my mouth–you kinda went the Godwin route on that, huh? For what it’s worth, I don’t know that she’s got any mental disorders at all because I’m not a psychologist and I have no connection to that woman whatsoever–maybe I should have mentioned that? And, as Thecorrectline mentions just above, I did assume she’s got some mental disorder going on because of her apparent belief in secret societies and such. So, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
Also in the news, from the Salt Lake Tribune,

The House stenographer who stole the microphone on Wednesday for a religious rant during the end-the-shutdown vote said that God kept waking her up and preparing her to deliver a message.
And from HuffPo, among other places,
“For the past 2 and 1/2 weeks, the Holy Spirit has been waking me up in the middle of the night and preparing me (through my reluctance and doubt) to deliver a message in the House Chamber. That is what I did last night”
So, yeah. Total sanity there.

Again, you are stereotyping. Are you that oblivious?

Your idea of ‘crazy’ isn’t what mental illness really is. I know it is tough to break that stereotype, which is why you responded in such a way. Think about it.

To entirely too many of the people in her district, what she says in that quote isn’t crazypants. Demographics and Gerrymandering have kept this woman in office far too long.

Bet you’re fun at parties, huh? I know it is tough to understand that tongue-in-cheek humor is difficult to get via text…but that last bit was tongue-in-cheek. Think about it.

The real problem with art museums is they let in all the riffraff, even design majors get allowed in. Sheesh. See what I’m saying?

Good point. Those particular belief structures are extremely potent, virulent, even. Whether they cross the line into clinical disorder, or are very attractive to some disorders is an interesting question. Outside my performance envelope, as it were, but damn interesting. As is, are bits of them true? But that’s why they’re so potent…

This isn’t the audio of what she was yelling in the house though (no gavel banging, far too little background chatter). It sounds like as they are pulling her down the corridor afterwards.

I totally get you, Maple!

Design majors: People who’ve been taught it’s ok to code a website in Flash…

Seriously off topic, but, that makes me think I dodged a bullet by going about it on my own. Flash is incompatible with my method. My method: view source on everything, search every question, and (this is key) smash my face against the problem, repeatedly, until it becomes clear.

Yup. That is how you learn. It’ll stick faster if you can find a mentor who will let you work it out for yourself, then yell at you when you get it wrong.
