One of my college roommates was from Colombia. She told me about a grade school classmate who was kidnapped in the middle of a lesson, after armed men stormed in and overpowered bodyguards. That incident was just her introduction to something that became a part of everyday life. I cannot imagine living with that kind of potential threat every day.

Yes, she left and lives in the US now. Unfortunately, her little classmate wasn’t so lucky - the negotiations for her return were not successful.
