The first thing I thought was, âDonât tortoises live in or near the water, not in the desert?â Which is what I wouldâve said if I were given the scenario in the comic.
Holden: The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun beating its legs trying to turn itself over but it canât, not without your help, but youâre not helping.
Leon: What do you mean Iâm not helping?
Itâs worth noting that Leon seemed disturbed by the idea of not helping; quite different than this one.
Holden: Youâre in a desert, walking along in the sand when all of the sudden-
Leon: Is this the test now?
Holden: Yes. Youâre in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down-
Leon: What one?
Holden: What?
Leon: What desert?
Holden: It doesnât make any difference what desert, itâs completely hypothetical.
Leon: But how come Iâd be there?
Holden: Maybe youâre fed up, maybe you want to be by yourself, who knows? You look down and you see a tortoise, Leon, itâs crawling towards you-
Leon: Tortoise, whatâs that?
Holden: Know what a turtle is?
Leon: Of course.
Holden: Same thing.
I donât think he was using the terms interchangably. The questioner used tortoise consistantly. I read it as another example of the dudeâs ignorance that he kept using the wrong word.
