Even Romney put the dog on the roof.
…damn him, anyway.
@anon33932455 ’s harness post reminded me of that. Actually had me thinking, at that point, you might as well put them in a pet carrier.
But, you know, some kids would love being able to ride on the roof, so who are we to judge?
/S, again.
Oh Mittens… that seems such quaint psychotic behavior by today’s GOP’s standards… oh for the days of binders of women, corporations are people, and puppers on roofs…
But of course!
We had a restaurant in Wichita on the same theme called Casey Jones Junction. It was popular enough to keep going until the owner’s death in 1986, but we only went once in my lifetime. My mom claimed the food wasn’t good enough to return, but the recession of the 70s might have been the real reason.
Ah, nice. We didn’t live on Long Island much past when I was 5-6. But I remember visiting the Choo-Choo at that young age.
“Growing up” in San Diego, the only impactful business of my youth, in terms of a clear “wow, this is amazing” is realizing what the head shop “The Black” sold when I was 8 or 9.
[I’m probably contributing too much to thread drift at that point. We might need a “Childhood memories” thread of its own, lol]
I worked as a bartender & bouncer across the street at Tony’s circa 1985. Shot & a brew was $2.00 US. Hodad’s burgers were on the daily menu, greasy but good. The old days in OB, Ocean Beach…
Um, no? I at no point said it was ok. These were different situations, people went in voluntarily, and were only in there for a few minutes, and no one was sick with covid.
So… you brought it up because? In a thread where several people have already downplayed how terrible this is?
The actual charge is “endangerment”, which seems to me to be an appropriate description of her actions.
From another article, here’s an interesting fact: her dad used to be the grand dragon of the United Klans of America.
Not so bright when you’re in a car boot. /s
Because the subject of riding in trunks comes up seldom? I like to randomly communicate? There’s a lot that’s horrible going all the time, not continuously reiterating on the horror of things doesn’t mean that I’m disagreeing that many many things are very very horrible?
When I was in high school in the 1970s, one of our teachers with a VW Beatle took me and I think 16 other kids in his car, most stuffed inside, but one guy on the roof (I seem to recall 17 total, but at my present age this seems unlikely. It was pretty squishy inside though). He had the presence of mind to take the “back way” into the school, though. And he drove reallly slow. Everyone thought it was a great adventure at the time, but as you say, should know better
Great song, don’t even remember hearing it even though I had all The Hip albums back then. Thanks for posting this.
At that time (and I was an OB regular [Tower 4!] from around 1975 until I left for college in 1985) Hodad’s had the best burgers on the planet.
Tony’s seemed like a weird place to me, when I was young. Forbidden, in a strange way.
There was a dive bar a across the street from the Sports Arena, behind/next to the Tower Records, that had free popcorn and Missile Command. Kind of a shady place, but they’d let us in, and sometimes gave us food. It’s likely gone now, but in the 1970s it was a cool place for a young teen to be allowed to hang out.

@anon33932455
That bar was Foggy’s Notion, a must stop mid day after Kobe’s swap meet just about ever weekend. $1.00 beers and $2.00 hamburgers that were just passable.
Tony’s was and still is a very chill cocktail bar. To my knowledge never a biker/rough crowd place. My compadre at the door bouncer was a former Marine embassy guard that saved my life a few times from passing jerks, never let those dickheads in the place we were told.
Cheers old chap!
This thread…holy crap. Are some of these people serious, or are we being trolled for yuks? How in the hell is anyone seriously defending this woman?
When I was a kid, my brother and I would ride on the back of a station wagon, usually asleep, on family vacations. While both of my parents were in the front smoking. With the windows rolled up. I can also remember my dad driving places on the weekend with an open beer in the car, because Texas didn’t have an open container law at the time. My dad also had a VW Beetle, and he’d let me and my brother stand on the bench seat in the back, lean over his shoulders, and steer the car while he worked the pedals. SO FUCKING WHAT? My parents, like many others of the time, were fucking stupid. Or, in some cases, just didn’t really understand the dangers. We know better now. Or we should. Especially a teacher, for fuck’s sake! Jesus. Stop defending this woman. (Also, not saying she should be locked up for years. Hopefully the whole family can get some help. They clearly need it.)
