Though kitchen knives and exacto knives have legit uses that don’t include threatening or killing people, and are unlikely to accidentally go off and lead to explosive decompression.
Then the invitations from CPAC and the NRA will roll in.
Maybe his wife figured this was easier than getting a divorce.
If that were me, I’m immediately heading to the bathroom, seperating as many parts as possible, wiping off the prints, and throwing it in the garbage (possibly different parts in different bathrooms). What an entitled asshat that he thought he would just get away with this because he’s a nobody-level politician.
Maybe he’s never travelled to that part of the world, but I saw signs on airport walls in English in Taipei (I know, different country but still) pointing out that the punishment for drugs was death. That’s not anywhere I would rely on an official’s discretion.
He clearly never watched Locked Up Abroad either.
I lost my swiss army knife that my wife gave me for a birthday 15 years earlier to airport security. And it was the third time I’d forgotten it was in my pocket, previous times I was able to go back pre-security and mail it or stash it hidden in the airport until my return. If one is accustomed to certain things all the time, you just stop thinking about it.
That’s a shame hopefully you were able to replace it but it does hurt to lose a cherished item like that. I did have something like that happen with TSA, i had left a pocket knife a good friend of mine gifted me and i forgot about it. The TSA guys recognized it was likely a knife i cared about and they let me go check the bag with the knife in it instead of surrendering it.
Claiming “I’m a responsible gun owner, I just made an honest mistake and forgot where I left my gun before leaving on an overseas trip” is kind of like claiming “I’m a responsible parent, I just made an honest mistake and forgot where I left my kids before leaving on an overseas trip.”
Interesting. Which method did he use?
I dont recall specifically, would look up the video but it was from years ago
Now you’re absolutely going to get extra checks if you visit Hong Kong.
He should have wiped it down and left it wrapped up in something disposable in the trash on the plane.
I had a girlfriend back on the 90s who travelled through Malaysia forgetting that she had a bag of weed in the bottom of her backpack (death penalty offense). For a grad student not very bright.
I’ve had friends who worked as Customs agents here in Canada who told multiple stories of Americans who got downright angry about their 2nd Amendment ‘Rights’ to bear arms while entering a DIFFERENT FUCKING COUNTRY. Being white cishet males they were of course just sent back where they came from rather than charged.
I agree that any sensible person will probably do what you suggest. No one wants customs of another nation hold you up and ruining your vacation right off the bat. However, those types of 2A supporter truly believe their right to carry is “sacred,” without border constrain. Being a politician is not helping as he’s probably used to being a dick without consequence. I gave him benefit of doubt about this as honest mistake until he got into the argument with reporters taking his picture like it’s not their rights. He should know better than that, being a public official. He doesn’t look like someone making a mistake. He is a privileged asshole. I believe he expects to get away from this.
Oh wait, this is from his official website:
making sure government is transparent and accountable.
Our challenge is to restore trust and faith in government, and this is a good place to start.
He did run his mouth so I think it’s a given he should walk the walk by serving his summon and potential charge sentence, “law abiding” crook official.
Hypocrite
Even with a truss belt, that’s a lot of weight for honest to be lifting.
Who’s taking bets on how many times he said “Don’t you know who I am!”
… not a good sign that that is possible either
One of my good friends is a serious gun guy – and he travels overseas quite a bit for work – and his travel luggage never gets anywhere close to his guns. This isn’t hard to avoid – and given that you can face serious time even for a round of ammunition in some countries, it’s well worth the time.
This just proves how much this is all “Security Theatre” and not really about protecting the people
David Cameron, is that you??
