Sounds like my old Pelican case with my camera and lenses, which they just had to swab and inspect every time. My dude - you xrayed it - its a camera. Why are you swabbing it for explosives? Because it looks like some bomb case in the movies??
Every CCW class I’ve been to emphasizes exactly this. There are many locations you could encounter in regular life where a gun is a no-go. Plan your day. I need to be careful, if I know I’ll be going to any federal facility during my day, to leave the gun and all related items at home. Depending on the facility, they have authority to search without cause. Some of them do.
Other possibly not obvious no-go locations include post offices, and nearly all commercial boats. This includes those ferries you drive on and off. Everyone who is carrying should be aware of these nuances.
And uh… international flights, especially to Asia… this is a criminal level of stupid. I’m actually amazed HK is being so lenient with him.
It might be even simpler to leave your gun at home all the time, given that you apparently get by just fine without it.
The weird trick the NRA doesn’t want you to know about!
My unit went to Japan in 2015 (I know, not Hong Kong, but anyway…). Prior to departure we had plenty of training, best summarized by “Don’t bring a fucking gun to Japan!” Of course we had one guy who didn’t think the rules applied to him, smuggled a weapon in amongst an equipment shipment, and was promptly caught on the outbound trip.
His deliberate efforts to conceal the weapon didn’t help his case and he spent two months in confinement in Japan before being sent back to the US where he was promptly discharged (likely as a condition of his release). 25+ year career gone just like that. And of course he never thought he did anything wrong.
All because he didn’t think “the rules applied to him” or some such? I mean, he’s a soldier, yeah? How can he NOT think the rules apply to him!?! What was that guy thinking?
Well he also used to be a cop, so he thought he was a special class. He literally carried the handgun around Japan for two weeks. Need I mention he was also a xenophobic shitbag?
I just assumed… because they always are. It’s probably well past time for the armed forces to figure out a way to weed these assholes out before they even get to basic.
So much for unit cohesion, though? Someone like that just disrupts shit too much…
I hear that jail in Japan is really awful
It depends what you’re in for.
There’s a trend for low income seniors to shoplift stuff because they either get the stuff or they get sent to prison, where the rent is free and the diet is a lot better than they are used to on their meagre pensions. If you’re a high rolling yakuza though, prison is obviously a major crimp on your life-style
