That’s generally pronounced “terrierist”.

It may be hungry, but bears in the Pasadena area rarely go into full hibernation due to the mild climate. They basically take a bunch of long naps (known as “denning”) instead.

The energy is certainly intimidating enough. Even cats can drive bears off, and it may be that they, like terriers, are nimble and fast moving, and could take out an eye.
