Crows have been seen using bait to catch prey, too.

And then crocodiles will use sticks to try to lure in nesting birds. It’s the circle of life!

Can confirm; have seen herons doing this when we lived alongside a canal and I would toss bread scraps in to feed the fish. A heron learned this and started hanging out on an overhanging branch as soon as I came near the canal. Luncheon is served.

National Geographic had a short article/pictoral about a Green Heron at the Miami Seaquarium that did that…40-some years ago.
It’s not new, but some people still find it surprising.
