As I recall Republicans actively avoided taking any measures that might have helped save lives during that pandemic also.

If masks saved lives, we wouldn’t need seat belts and airbags.

I always thought Utah gave them a run for the money in crazy bigoted lawmakers.

Something of an irrelevant aside from this idiot asshole, but it turns out not only is he stupid, but also probably wrong. At least my understanding is that the AIDS pandemic is responsible for a lot of the improved PPE used in medical settings now, possibly including heavier mask use as well as gloves and other physical protection. And of course masks were heavily used by immunocompromised HIV/AIDS patients due to their extreme vulnerability to opportunistic infection.

We are the hollow men

We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw
Our dried voices, when
We whisper
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

– T.S. Eliot, The Hollow Men
