The fact that Ben Shapiro is held up as an example of intellectualism on the right tells you everything you need to know about the current state of the American Conservative movement.
I mean William F. Buckley Jr. was a garbage human being in a lot of ways but you at least got the impression he really did read a lot of books and was capable of absorbing and processing ideas that conflicted with his traditional conservative worldview.

But the thing is, they wouldn’t even need to - Shapiro’s arguments with adults are operating at a junior high debate club level (at best)*, and he clearly thought he could even further dumb down when addressing kids, but…
*I mean, his whole shtick is just starting with “Let’s say…” then stating a counter-factual, and basing his entire argument on that fiction. Pretty easy to “win” an argument if you make up all your own “facts.”
Yeah, it’s not about knowing anything or being able to form an argument, it’s entirely about “owning the libs.” Which he only appears to do, if you don’t know anything about what he’s talking about. If you know anything, he’s pretty obviously just an idiot telling lies and spending all his effort carefully constructing straw-men to take on.

This is one of the things that people say about Shapiro (and Cruz and a few others) that annoy the heck out of me. Try that crap in an actual competitive debate at any level and you will lose, unless your competition is just as incompetent as you.
Winning in debate depends upon a solidly structured argument with real, factual evidence behind it. Making shit up like Ben or even just misapplying evidence will cause you to lose points, not gain them.
