He wasn’t following you - It’s the only road in town.

Yeah!

They yell at the bear “go home!”

But maybe the bear’s home is in same the direction that they’re walking in?

He just went out for a loaf of bread.

“Go home!”

“I am home!”

I like the kids eagerness to try out playing dead.

Awww! Not saying I wouldn’t be freaking out, too, especially with little kids to protect, but if that really is a black bear they are generally gentle, berry-eating giants. A friend used to forage huckleberries in Montana and had great stories of spending a whole day on a log with a black bear about 10 ft away. He said he’d pick his berries into a bucket, then move 5 feet down the log, and the bear would pick the berries right into it’s mouth, wait ‘til he moved, then move 5 feet down and sit on the log, always staying the same distance apart.

I am bit surprised that it didn’t run when they yelled at it - usually that’s enough to make a black bear move on. Seems like the trail is the best way to get wherever that bear was going.

“Our son is named Barry!”

Well, that’s on you, then. Words matter, pal!
