I tried to flip that phrase to a different race, just to see what it would look like. As a white American, I tried to think of who might be a “credit to my race” and came up woefully short. Bill McKibben, I guess🤷🏻♀️

Oh, right, I was totally doing it wrong. I was projecting my own values onto them, instead of thinking what others would see as values in us. That makes the original phrase that much ickier.
On the other hand they perform a service which benefits the poster by making their Twitter thread more accessible to readers. Nothing stopping the original author from re-formatting the whole shebang and posting it somewhere themselves. In my view they’re not so much monetising the original words but their own processing of them.
