It’s not about policy, it was never about policy, it is about the justifying brutal slaughter of everyone who is not on the “right” “side”.
If we could harness Trumpist projection as an energy source, we’d have cities on the Moon by now.
The American right has been pretty consistent for the last 70 years - “communism”/“socialism” is just whatever they don’t like.
E.g.
My buddy’s boss was going off about ‘antifa’ and this little conversation ensued:
“So are you a fascist then?”
“No, of course not!”
“So you’re anti fascist?”
“Yes!”
“That’s what ‘antifa’ is. Anti-fascism, anti-fa, anyone opposed to fascism.”
"Yeah, but. . . no, you see. . . . "
Did he use the fake quote from Winston Churchill
The fascists of the future will be called anti-fascists.
and use a definition of fascism that would have included Winston Churchill for most of the 1930s?
[WAGSTAFF]
I don’t know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway
Whatever it is, I’m against it
No matter what it is or who commenced it
I’m against itYour proposition may be good
But let’s have one thing understood:
Whatever it is, I’m against it
And even when you’ve changed it or condensed it
I’m against itI’m opposed to it
On general principles, I’m opposed to it[STUDENTS]
He’s opposed to it
In fact, indeed, he’s opposed to it[WAGSTAFF]
For months before my son was born
I used to yell from night till morn
“Whatever it is, I’m against it.”
And I’ve been yelling since I first commenced it
I’m against it
Reminds of the time my brother jogged by a bunch of tea partiers who were protesting Obamacare in 2010 and shouted:
“You don’t want socialized medicine?”
The dozen or so protestors shouted back “Yeah!”
My brother: “Then get rid of Medicare”
Uncomfortable silence ensued.
I mean, if most “conservatives” actually understood the definition, the GOP would have dissolved by now.
Reminds me of this man who had a hard time reaching his goal of asking the collective to pool their resources so he could afford a decent lawyer to fight communism
Socialism is just another word for fear in the lexicon of the right.
Or why their car won’t start.
The ignorance was neatly encapsulated by various Tea party signs:
Likewise, if Republican voters understood what their party actually stood for, the GOP would have dissolved by now. It’s interesting to see issues that have broad bi-partisan support among voters, but Republican officials vote against them. When Republican voters are asked what their party’s position on the issue is, they just assume it’s the same as theirs.
If any nazi/racist/fashy/trumper/reich wingers have that Gov. relief check, please unburden yourselves by sending it to me, I just built a bar in my home and need cash to stock it. Thanks!
I was arguing with a rather right-wing dude and offered my definition of socialism.
“You can’t just take all the good stuff for your side,” he said.
We literally aren’t, it’s literally about sharing our resources. WTF! I hope you ran away from that idiot.
The right wingers could have done it too (see the section on conservative socialism in The Communist Manifesto), but they chose not to.
It’s a pretty typical branding exercise in my view. Originally communism and socialism → “bad”, then eventually “bad” → communism and socialism. “Bad” being defined at any given time by the emotions and peccadilloes of the “thinker”.
You know what, I am fairly convinced that Trump, the Trumpists, and most of the Reich wing “platform” is Russian propaganda gone horribly right for them.
Unlike most conspiracy theories, there is a lot of evidence for it…
(Ok to use “Peccadilloes of the Thinker” as my next album title?)
