No –– I get the “idea”. This fucking douchebag wants democracy for him and his ilk, but not people he doesn’t want to vote.
No, I think it’s just that facts don’t care about his feelings…
Yes they do.
The problem is that’s what they’re after. We have most of them on record talking about it openly. And a hard drive full of internal documents outlining the hows and whys.
Of course not.
That would require them to drop the fig leaf and openly argue that certain people shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Which they’ve done repeatedly lately. Including in court.
I hear McDonalds is hiring. Heck, they’ll even pay him 50 bucks to interview…
I’ve posted this several times, and it still gets me. They actually said it out loud. Intentionally. On the record.
As a defense!
That’s not the only time either. Again and again in Gerrymandering and voter suppression cases they say it flat out when all their horse shit has been knocked down. More than once it’s been flat out “I don’t think Democrats should be allowed to vote”.
It’s still a fig leaf though. As it stands it’s not illegal to target people like this based on party affiliation. Why the fuck not I can’t fathom. But so long as they’re saying “we want to disenfranchise Democrats, and just totally by coincidence we happened to disenfranchise Blacks while doing it” it’s a legally plausible defense. One their base won’t blink at.
It reminds me of something my Mom you to say to someone being dismissive like Mr. Kennedy is here: “Yes, you hear me, but are you listening?”.
I think he clearly is not listening.
They absolutely do understand it. Impacting poor and minority voters is the entire point.
There’s often a problem with these old Boomer-boxes; the signal is fine, but there is too much cognitive dissonance on the receiver. He needs to have his ethical equalizer settings tweaked.
I’ve never known a cat as dumb as this creature.
John Kennedy: Ok, I get the idea. I get the idea.
Narrator: He did not.
Yeah, and I don’t know that I would say that he was really befuddled either. He was barely listening & didn’t care in the least what she was saying. So no. He did not ‘get the idea’…
If that came to be, then I might actually donate. As for now, I throw away their appeal letters.
ol’ foghorn leghorn taking the tried and true tactic when dealing with someone smarter than they are. talk down, interrupt, be rude, dismiss. he is completely overmatched here and exposes himself as the racist, sexist lyin’ scumbag that he is.
I can’t decide if he knows EXACTLY what that bill (now law) is all about and is playing dumb, or if he’s completely ignorant about it and is babbling reich-wing media talking points, thinking they’re clever rebuttals.
Oh, Senator Kennedy understood just fine. He was playing stupid to sow doubt and pander to his fascist base.
I should clarify. Of course Republican lawmakers know exactly what they’re doing, but they pretend otherwise. I don’t know if someone like Abrams calling that out in a public debate helps or not, certainly it would feel good to hear someone just say it to their faces.
Also, when I say “Republicans” I’m not necessarily only talking about lawmakers. The so-called conservatives I know on a personal basis really do believe in massive voter fraud and deny that these measures are racist, to them it’s not about race it’s about “Democrats cheating.” They live in a fantasy world. We all know this. With that in mind I still seek ways to illustrate to the conservatives I know how they are wrong-- someone willfully lying doesn’t care, someone with misconceptions might listen.
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.
On another note, replace Donny with Johnny (apologies to Donny for comparing the 2) and that’s how I feel about this whole interaction:
I @beschizza’d him right after the Capitol insurrection:
