WATCH LIVE: Trump rioters break through barrier and are attempting to break into the Capitol

Yep, he can get a great pension for a couple days of work.

Either they did their home work, or had help.

Well, then let’s draft a new law for this tyrant and let him fight it court. He deserves NOTHING.

Nice. A Covid Cruiser, full of Vermont ghouls, on their way to “clean up” DC! :grimacing:

Seems safe to say that neither Ben nor Jerry were along for this ride.

Awesome. Be next, Josh Hawley.

The article looks pretty factual to me.

Saw it on MSNBC first time. That was sufficient. Amazing more people were not killed.

It’s kinda a puff piece. For example, they talk about the incident where she was arrested for endangerment, but skip over that it was a vehicle attack on her ex’s spouse. Talk about your red flags.

So…maybe we don’t engage in ‘whatabout’ considering the overwhelming show of force demonstrated last summer by DC authorities when demonstrably peaceful protestors came to town, who, not coincidentally, had no intention or ideation of attempting a coup d’état?

Just how do you think those BLM and social justice protestors would’ve been met at the Capitol steps had they tried anything close to the bullshit that went down this past Wednesday? I am pretty damned sure it would’ve been a bloodbath.

this is the real key. deadly force never should have been necessary, and honestly: the fact that woman was shot and killed – having seen it in that video above  – shooting her served no purpose

there were easily several hundred people pushing at a door guarded by less than ten officers, barricaded with wooden chairs.

wooden chairs is seriously the best that a police force with a 1/2 billion dollar budget can do? those cops couldn’t have stopped it.

knowing days in advance of the rally, and the intentions that were there on social media, there should have been barricades to disrupt and direct large groups of people from gathering, and fences well outside to keep people away.

the white house got a nice non-scalable wall for election day, why not congress – especially when they knew there was an imminent threat.

( these are all rhetorical questions. the reason security failed was that it was designed to fail. )

Please edit your comment to quote what you consider me engaging in whataboutism. As it stands I haven’t the foggiest idea what you’re talking about, but neither the comment above or below me are either so I have to assume I am the one being accused.

No it wouldn’t have been… at least not at the Capitol steps. Best case they would have been kettled at the rally. Worst case, given the credible threats that were being openly discussed online? A massacre at the rally.

But I don’t understand how the question is relevant to my comment (vaguely) about how insurrectionists attempting a coup should be handled…

I’m not sure what you mean by no purpose. I believe I read earlier today that those were doors into the Speaker’s Lobby through which Congress was retreating through at that time. That is to say it was a last line of retreat. Killing her did serve a purpose if it got the mob to back off while Congress made it’s escape.

I didn’t know Laura Branigan passed. :weary:

Nothing of surprise (for most people here) in this op-ed about the very different response to the capital hill riot/coup compared to the past responses to peaceful BLM protests, but it does do a great job calmly and intelligently iterating the disparity that might be of interest or useful to re-post.

Stop Saying “This Is Not Who We Are.”

(YES, IT FUCKING IS.)

We know who many of them are. Most are from my surrounding towns, and the organizers weren’t exactly subtle when announcing who they were.

The video has been forwarded to our local FBI office, as well as the footage of these traitors returning to the state in the cover of darkness.

To add a cherry to the shit sundae, none of them were wearing a mask on the 19 hour round trip bus ride and a number on the bus admitted to breaking our quarantine regulations. May they also be last to get the vaccines die to this wanton disregard for the state’s guidelines.

That’s not what happened. What I think happened, after piecing together bits of information from here and there, is that the few officers on the inside of those glass doors had no other choice. And here’s why I say this. Behind the dais of the House of Representatives are two sets of double doors. Those doors lead to something called the speakers lobby. I’m pretty sure that in that lobby is another entrance to the underground tunnel that pelosi and some of the other associates escaped in. The officers at that glass door didn’t have anything but those wooden chairs to put there to barricade. And they must not have had very much ammunition. So when that woman came through the window, there was only one shot fired and then they waited to see what the effect would be. I’m pretty sure they were scared to death and were thinking that that entire crowd was about to bust through and come barreling down the hall. And all they had were a few guns. And further down that Hall was the entrance to the escape tunnel. So I’m pretty sure that shooting was related to them protecting the speaker and whoever was with her, and also not knowing what the crowd would do once they did fire a shot.

I agree with that part about wooden chairs and desks and stuff. We are a multi-trillion-dollar economy and all they have at the House of Representatives in case there’s an emergency are a few chairs? Come on. Talk about unprepared. It’s a wonder that no one else has tried to take over.

as far as i could tell, it didn’t slow things down at all.

i will grant the officers may have thought though there were just a small number of violent people at the door. they might not have been able to see the literal crush behind them and that may have changed their decision.

if so, that speaks even more to the absolute failure of those in charge. it looked like in most of those videos the individual cops were operating on their own, with little communication or eyes on the bigger situation. in this case – so far as i understand – little realization that the building had already been entered.

( in some cases, apparently even deliberately let in by fellow officers. )

It’s not a coup!

Well, the Times of India headline may disagree:

A thousand armed soldiers on the steps, and Apache helicopters spraying the crowd in front of the building with heavy arms fire as soon as they started to get through the first barricade. Guaranteed.
