Watch Mike Pence speak over hecklers as they shout "traitor!"

Until suddenly it was the other way around.

Well, showing who they were has given them legitimacy only in their own world, not outside it. White evangelicals got to dictate a lot of mainstream cultural conversations in this country in recent decades, in ways they couldn’t get away with now.

Don’t agree, but I envy your optimism and hope your right

The same could be said for the fascists, but on their rise to power they pruned the least-awful, least-fanatical members of their party to ensure there weren’t any voices of restraint left by the time they were running the show.

Pence isn’t a moderate by normal standards, but by the standards of the GQP anyone who puts rule of law above Trump’s ascension isn’t a true member of the cause.

The Republican Party hasn’t been fragmenting since the election; it’s been further radicalizing.

Faith & Freedom Coalition’s annual Road to Majority conference

Well credit where due –– at least they understand that now they are in the minority. Otherwise fuck this conference.

Serves him right. He still is the guy who tried to enact Jim Crow 2.0 and let an HIV outbreak become an epidemic in IN.

Having his fellow corrupt, irresponsible bigoted brethren turn on him is karmic payback.

If he’s not with them he’s against them. And necessarily part of the “deep state.”

More charitably, he’s just not sufficiently ideologically pure. He’s not smart enough. To realize that Hillary Clinton harvests the blood of children in the basement of pizza parlors that have no basement.

It’s funny to remember that he was picked as Trumps running mate expressly TO appeal to the evangelical vote. There were some evangelicals that were put off by Trumps history of womanizing and other “unchristian” behavior. I suspect that Pence has been surprised to discover the extant to which much of the evangelical movement is racist and sexist FIRST, and “Christian” something like seventh.

or maybe he was just more submissive and easier to control than Chris Christie

Do you mean if the mob had actually caught up to AOC or Nancy Pelosi? They’d be all “so unfortunate that there were a couple of bad actors amongst all of those dedicated patriots, but what can you do? So let’s forget about it and vote on that next farm bill. Thoughts and prayers thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.”

Now if QOP representatives had been injured…

Well, they’re not wrong as such
Not that they’d ever see it that way, mind.

Well, both. It has shed a number of members. But the religious right were always the extreme bit of the Republican party - at this point the ones trying to take over are simply the ones who say the quiet part out loud. It’s not changing their policies any, but it is causing them to lose followers who were happy to go along with things so long as no one was too explicit about what they really stood for.

That’s what everyone said when Trump was edging closer and closer to winning the nomination in 2016. Remember the “Never Trump” movement?
