That clear ice is freaky, it’s a looooongg way down.

When the Trans-Siberian railroad was being constructed, they just laid ties and tracks across the ice of Lake Baikal for winter use, and took them up before ice-out. After a few years a route around the lake was built.

Dang, that’s mighty fine music.
Seeing Lake Baikal before it gets somehow ruined (massively polluted, the next yuppie ‘must see’ destination, etc.) is on my bucket list.
