Two bucks says [former occupant of the White House] gets away with it this time.

Sadly, I’m sure you’re right. There are far too many (read: more than one) people that seem to believe everything he’s been saying and there are far too many elected officials that are too afraid of the last guy to “cross” him by telling the truth. :frowning:

All I want for every holiday ever is for elected officials to actually do what’s best for their actual, non-gerrymandered constituents without malice to everyone else. I sadly know that’s never going to happen, but it sure sounds nice on paper at least…

Trump is not a patriot, he does not love his country, he loves money and power, and if he could have unlimited wealth in another country he would leave in a heartbeat.

" The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn’t; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all." --GK Chesterton

Nixon was many horrible things, but he wasn’t a narcissist (quite the opposite – I suspect he hated himself). That meant that when Barry Goldwater (no prize either) showed up to tell him it was over, the crook who had earlier perpetrated the “Saturday night massacre” actually listened to the reasoning.

Compare to what happened in 2020 with Biff’s lawyer Jeffrey Clark, who promised to overturn the election in exchange for being made Attorney General (a classic fascist flex) despite being unqualified. The other Justice Dept. officials in the room made no headway with their threatened resignations if Clark got the job until one of them figured out the lever. He basically told Biff, “look, you appointed most of these people who are theatening to quit, you put effort into getting Senate approval from them. How is this gonna make you look?”

This is how crises were always averted with this preening clown: by playing to his vanity and greed.

I’m not sure those are really opposites.
