a friend did a series of recipes using Mountain Dew. He lived to tell the tale, but didn’t have much enthusiasm for repeating the experiments.

The basic recipe is: flavored sugar water thickened with flour and made richer with a bit of butter. So any sort of flavored sugar water (i.e. soda) would work the same way. Whether you’d want to eat it is another issue.
